He’s the only one, looking around, desperate to see, catch a glimpse.
“No…” Verso breathes out, his voice tethers on trembling, barely concealed terror, “She can’t–”

To her surprise, Celine actually relents and says: "Likewise."

Rumi is begging and Mira had wanted to be just that, be together, up until five minutes ago – her and Zoey had talked about it in detail, how both of their heart were beating for two people, how easy it had been to fall in love with their leader, how they wanted to try and be more, once they had restored the Golden Honmoon.
But Rumi lied to them.
And Mira finds she doesn’t want her anymore, not right now.
(She doesn’t know, not yet, what she will lose. Destiny laughs into her ears and it is the sound of someone gone mad.)

Summary

That is what Rumi asks Celine, and she stands there before her on the precipice of answering her daughter’s request. She is marked by her pain, all her faults and fears now exposed to the world, to the people who were once closest to her. Rumi can’t take it. Cannot accept these demonic marks for what they are, a part of her, so she escapes from her home, her life, her stage, to finally put an end to it all. To allow Celine to do what all Hunters do.
Back in Seoul, even with the International Idol Awards in ruins, Mira and Zoey do not give in to Gwi-Ma’s control. No, instead they only hesitate. They wait in uncertainty before they pursue Rumi, and that, therefore, becomes their utter destruction for all three of them.

Mira’s thumb stilled on the screen. She looked up, slow. “…What?”
Zoey’s hands twisted in her lap. “Like—not open relationships. Just… not just one person. Have you ever thought about being with more than one person and it still being okay?”
She wasn’t looking at Mira. Her voice was tight, like it hurt to speak. Mira watched her with a furrowed brow, still quiet.
“I feel so guilty all the time. Because I love you, Mira. I love you, and this doesn’t change that, but I see her and I want to make her smile and I want her to hold my hand and I think she’s beautiful and weird and sweet and I—”
She finally looked up, tears shining in her eyes.
“I think I ruined us. And I’m so sorry.”
Mira just stared at her. Wide-eyed. Silent.
Zoey’s heart dropped. “Say something.”
Mira exhaled like she’d been holding her breath for a month.
Then she visibly deflated—shoulders dropping, head tilting back against the wall—and let out a quiet, choked laugh.
“…Oh thank god.”

“Do what you should’ve done a long time ago,” Rumi said, her voice steady, resolute in its despair.
And in that moment, Celine felt her world fracture — because it wasn’t the weapon that terrified her.
It was the look in Rumi’s eyes.
There was only a hollow gaze staring back at her, as if all of that warmth had been carved away, leaving behind a stranger wearing her little girl’s face.

“ - t’sokay,” Rumi tries to assure Zoey, who's frantically hovering, but her words are slurred. “It only scratched me. I wasn’t bit.” Her back aches from where the werewolf had thrown her, but it’s nothing compared to the pain where its claws had ripped into her.
“Why’d you push me out of the way?” Zoey demands, and there is so much pain in her voice that Rumi wants to reach for her, but Rumi’s hand won’t do anything but twitch uselessly at her ruined side.
“Had to…” Rumi feels woozy, like she’s floating on a cloud, but she still manages a weak smile. “You were in danger… s’worth it…”
“Idiot,” Zoey sobs. “You’re such an idiot, Rumi.”
Rumi wants to laugh but it comes out like a cough, the sound thick and wet, as the red spills out past her smile in a rush.
Ryu Rumi was trained to be a Hunter just like her mother before her. Until one night a Hunt goes horribly wrong and Rumi becomes the very thing she had sworn to destroy.
Years since she fled Korea, Rumi firmly believes her past to be in the past.
Only she’s never been that lucky.
