It had reached a point where Brock had literally asked Quinn yesterday—in one of those rare times that Jack wasn’t hovering—if Quinn had gotten the chance to call Kirill, because according to Brock, Kirill had been texting him a lot asking how Quinn was.

The water coming from the sink wasn’t hot enough, Max leaned against the counter of his bathroom, he stared at himself in the mirror, he looked like shit, he always looked like shit, tired, ugly, broken. Finally the water was hot enough, it burned as Max plunged his hands under the stream, viciously scrubbing at the oil on his hands. He knew he would run his fingers through his hair again, and again, and each time he would return to the burning water, he would run his fingers under the stream, he would scrub away the oil that coated his fingers and made his skin itch.
