Summary
This city liked to pretend it was civilized—brick buildings, pressed suits, polite smiles. Scratch the surface and you hit rot. Everyone worked for someone, and the ones who didn’t ended up face‑down in an alley. The gangs ran the streets, the politicians ran the gangs, and the cops were just another crew on the take.
I told myself it was just business. Keep emotions out of it, rise clean, avoid becoming another thug in a cheap suit. It was a good story.
Stories don’t last long in this city.

The man in the unadorned King’s Plate had his fist buried in Kaladin’s side.
