Eiji had reached out, just barely, resting a hand on Ash’s arm. Ash flinched. Too sharp. Too fast.
Eiji froze, eyes wide, wounded. “Ash…”
Ash shook his head. He wanted to dismiss it, bury it. But the words broke loose, jagged.
“He—” His throat closed. He pressed his fist against his mouth, tried again. “He taught me wrong. I don’t… I don’t know what’s mine. I don’t know if I’ll ever—” The words collapsed into silence.
