Summary
“He looks like you,” Sam said, so quiet Dean almost wasn’t sure he’d heard correctly.
“Who?”
Sam snorted a little. “You know. Paul.”
Dean knocked a knuckle against Sam’s nose. “He’s the younger brother, dingus. And he dies. I’m not dying.”
“I know, but, just—"
They were quiet for a moment. Then Dean, softly: “You think so?” He tried to keep his voice even but heat crawled up his cheeks, couldn’t help it.
Sam nodded into his chest.
“Brad Pitt, huh."
“I mean you’re…better…different, but. Always think of you.”

Summary
On the nights he actually manages to fall asleep (few and far between these days), he always, inevitably, jolts awake into the darkness of whatever motel he’s staying in. Papery bed covers rumpled and sweat-soaked beneath him, the room so thick with presence it takes him sometimes minutes to come back to himself, to remember that he is alone and the presence he thinks he feels is just a phantom limb, not really there, not anymore.
And he puts a hand to his chest, feeling for his heartbeat. Takes a slow breath, waits. For what? he wonders. Under his hand, the thudding, constant and without hesitation. It seems impossible, the incessancy of his heart.
He’s not here. He whispers it to himself over and over, tells the blackness: He’s not here.

Summary
Sam wakes up slowly. The dull hum of noise in the distance resolves into Dean's voice, quietly singing along with the radio. Sam's face is stuck to the leather seat. He's been drooling a little; the corner of his mouth is wet. He moves his hand tentatively, feeling it prickle, heavy with blood. The window's rolled down.

Fucking wings. And a voice that was, in Dean's opinion, marginally more persuasive than normal but really, it was the wings that irritated him most.

Bookmarker's Notes
"Outside Ohio they come together for the first time in lips and tongue and teeth, sex heavy in the air between them. Desperate touching, worried lines between Dean's eyes, and too quick, too hasty hands.
They're side by side when Sam says, “It's never going to be over.”
He's not sure if he means him and Dean or this life or the feeling of being stalked, but Dean just rolls over and stares at him, face blank. “No, Sammy, it won't.”
And if there's a reply Sam could make, it drowns under the feel of Dean's hands on him and Dean's warm mouth on his own."

Bookmarker's Notes
"He knows as much as Sam does that this has been there, under the surface, lurking like some fucking demon Dean has no idea how to exorcise. It's been there and been there and Dean is afraid that if he ignores it much longer it will start twisting and morphing and mutating into something ugly and dangerous--more dangerous than this already is, at least."

A nest of vamps had clung in these dry mountains, hunkered in the bowels during the day, preyed on dirt farmers and the Indian village at night. (2008)

"tight in his arms, steady breath and blood-hot pulse and his brother was his, his alone. Not the cold desert's, not their father's, not to these lonely mountains. No goddamned vampire. Just his, only them."

Summary
Dean no longer goes out at nights and comes home smelling like women's perfume and sex, and they don't talk about it, any of it, but the first time Sam wakes up with jerking hips, boxers the only thing between Dean's ass and his dick, he jumps away and Dean just rolls onto his back, hand rising to scrub the sleep away from his eyes.

Bookmarker's Notes
"Dean talks about Stanford like college is something Sam woke up and decided to order for breakfast, because he had a taste for it.-"
"Go to hell, Sammy," he spits, a mouthful of blood on the ground like a crude punctuation.
Sam shakes out his arm. He tries to shake off the hum in his fingers, saying, "Where the fuck do you think I am, Dean?" even if the land around him still looks a lot like Ohio.
Dean laughs into his sleeve and spits onto the gravel again before he angles his face up, hands on his knees. He says, "I thought this place looked familiar."
Sam feels a little manic when his resolve breaks, but his lips stretch despite himself, hand aching and bright red."

"All the distinctions between them – college boy and tough guy, honest kid and dishonest crusader, grieving lover and unloved player – they’re all being obliterated, melting away"
