Summary
“It would have to be for a very good reason.”
Solo sips his coffee without a flicker. “Presumably as good a reason as there is for Caldwell to be dead.”
Illya turns at that to look at the American properly, sets the file aside on the other sofa cushion. “This doesn’t bother you even slightly.”
The alertness is back in Solo’s eyes, the icy core of them. “We’re not in the right line of work to be bothered by one man’s death. Not when we’re trying to prevent a lot more.”Istanbul, July 1963. The death of a CIA officer threatens to ignite tensions, but the USSR disavows all knowledge.

Summary
As if he could ever forget Barbados. The circumstances necessitated a very specific type of cover—the only time Napoleon and Illya had been asked to fake being in a romantic relationship. It had come near the end of UNCLE’s run, which was probably a good thing, even though ultimately it hadn’t actually required much of them. A few casual yet affectionate touches in public, standing close together, some lingering looks. Not that different than how they usually behaved around each other, which, no, he wasn’t going to think too hard about. It had been easy to fall into that mindset, and Napoleon had worried that his careful mask had slipped enough for Illya to glimpse the too-real feelings beneath.
But then, not even a month later, UNCLE had disbanded and it was a moot point. He was never going to see Illya again. Except now he’s staring up at his former partner, being asked to pretend he’s in love again.
(Ten years after UNCLE was disbanded, Illya asks Napoleon with help with a mission that will test their partnership and blur the lines between what is a cover and what's real.)

Summary
“I’m sorry, sir,” the woman at the counter says. “We just rented our last car.”
“Of course you did,” Napoleon sighs. That would be just his luck.
“But he did say he was headed to New York too,” she continues. “Maybe you could work something out with him?”
She nods to someone behind him, and Napoleon can’t quite quash the absurd hope bubbling up in his chest as he turns. He doesn’t care who this guy is, he can charm anyone, and he’s pretty sure he could put up with anything—
Oh, shit.
(After an inauspicious first encounter, Napoleon and Illya find themselves sharing a rental car on a cross-country road trip two days before Christmas. It should be a question of whether they can get to New York in one piece. Instead, the question becomes: are they ready to say goodbye when they get there?)
