Summary
The first time that Shane falls out of bed, he wakes up just before his body hits the floor.
While he's not injured, the fall does knock the air out of him, and he lays there face down, pressed into the rug as he gasps for breath, trying to process what the fuck just happened.
He hasn't fallen out of bed since… well, since ever. He'd always been a relatively sound sleeper, often waking up in the same position he'd fallen asleep in, something that has continued all the way through childhood and into his adult life.
So the fact that he's laying on the floor for the first time now, at 26, makes no sense. Everything is the same as it always has been… except for one thing. Tonight, someone is in his bed. That's definitely new.
or: Ilya really can't help that he sleeps like a starfish when he's comfortable. Shane is a solution-oriented person who just really wants a good night's sleep next to his boyfriend (boyfriend???), and who'll do whatever he has to in order to get it.

Summary
This has been, without a doubt, one of the weirdest and most wonderful days of Ilya Rozanov’s whole entire life. This morning, he woke up alone in his bed in Boston, and now he’s ending the day standing awkwardly in the bedroom of Shane Hollander’s “fortress of solitude” in some random fucking Ontario forest, watching through the bathroom doorway as his… lover, maybe?… gets ready for bed.

“Do you, um,” Ilya says, trying his damnedest to remind himself that this is nothing like their ill-fated sleepover last fall, and he can, in fact, be normal about this, “do you have particular side of the bed you like to sleep on?”

“Shane?” Ilya asks again. “What happened?” His gloveless hand twitches and he lifts it a fraction of an inch towards Shane.
Shane tosses his own gloves to the ice and reaches forward, lacing their fingers together. “You took a bad hit,” he says, gritting his teeth against the fear clawing at his guts. “Flipped headfirst into the ice. Are you okay?”
Ilya groans in answer and squeezes his hand, though Shane can't tell if he meant to do that or not.
Suddenly, there are people all around them. Shane shifts protectively close before he realizes it’s the medical team.
“Hollander, get back to your bench,” someone says, but there’s no way Shane’s going. Even if he wanted to, Ilya’s gripping his hand like a lifeline, eyes finally locked on Shane’s face. Shane isn’t leaving him.

So big and dark and beautiful, it was really such a shame that they got wasted on taking tests, because really Cherry thought that they were the most deepest voids of eyes he had ever seen, and that stare- so intense, so breathtaking, it left him speechless. And on paper, this is such a stupid thing. It seems so melodramatic, to be passionately arguing in the middle of the street– oh if their classmates could see them now– over an all-nighter, over some exams. A moment they might not even remember in three years, probably won’t in five, definitely won’t in ten.
But it's more than that. Right now, this is important. Akihiko is important, and he's falling apart right before Harumi’s eyes. Earnestness isn't his strong suit, but this is something worth trying for. Worth being a little honest, really honest, for. Worth fighting the subsequent bite of shame for. Akihiko is worth that.

"I try not to anymore, because we’re just meant to be friends in our universe.” Will tries to say it as though he’s happily accepted the reality. It doesn’t hurt any less. “But… it still happens sometimes,” he whispers.
Goth Mike looks at him with pain behind his eyes. “Do you want to know what it’s like? Right now?”
OR
