    Meanwhile, Ahsoka doesn’t know what to do with herself, Anakin is not even remotely traumatized, no sir, and Obi-Wan does not have even the slightest urge to throttle Palpatine with his bare hands.

    After all, that would be most uncivilized.

    I'm reaching out regarding a curious case I encountered in the archives that would have occurred in 0 AFE, roughly speaking. Unfortunately, the dates - along with all other information - are rather scant. All I can find are several references regarding, to my bewilderment, the installation of a life support system that involves a bizarre collection of medical assistance tools.

     

    When a graduate student stumbles across some unusual data in an archive, he's sure it's the key to writing a successful dissertation. Unfortunately for him (and even more unfortunately for the public relations staff of the Grand Imperial Medical Facility), the request sets off an explosive [email] chain reaction that's more than anyone bargained for. Surely a quadruple amputee burn victim isn't really running around in a 200 pound suit amped up on mysterious substances, right?

    For all that he'll probably come to appreciate it later, coming to in a healthy body when you haven't felt a gentle touch in twenty-odd years isn't exactly a pleasant experience.

    Threads weave together and pull taunt like a bowstring. He can feel it the second they snap into place, like two bridges of sunlight streaming across the infinite chasm of the Force, nestling in next to his bond with Obi-Wan.

    Vader reaches out timidly as his hand caresses Padme's stomach, afraid that this new branch of him might crumble. The opposite happens. The moment his mind brushes against that of his children, he knows for certain three things at once:

    He's not dead, this is not a dream, and his children have Force-bonded with him.

    OR:

    After twenty years under Lord Sidious's thumb, Vader expects to die in his son's arms and stay dead. The Force disagrees.

    There are other methods of balance. Find a new one.

    Vader's thrown into the past with the chance to change it all. It goes terribly wrong.

After enjoying spending time with his lost loved ones, he decides he really needs to wake up before he dies of dehydration. When intense meditation fails, he tries to break the illusion through more...EXTREME measures (check the tags). Panic from all parties ensues.

Two small, innocent bundles of warmth and light squirmed in his arms as he sprinted as fast as his legs could carry him - he didn’t want to go, his wife had begged him to leave her behind because she’d been too weak to follow and the visions said she’d die and he couldn’t live without her - but the clones were gaining ground, leaving him no choice but to run faster.

    Six years later, things had started to fall into place for Anakin’s civilian alter-ego, Set Lars. His wonderful (and exhausting) children were safe, he had a job that put food on the table and no one suspected him to be a once celebrated war hero-turned-fugitive.

    When Obi-wan doesn’t follow Padmé to Mustafar, she’s able to convince Anakin to run away from everything with her. But this doesn't prevent his nightmares from coming true, and he's left alone in a hostile galaxy with the infants she begged him to protect.

    “Master Anakin,” Threepio says, still hovering in the doorway. “Might I suggest bouncing the children?”

    Anakin stops pacing around with the twins, head swiveling to look at Threepio. He doesn’t have to ask what the fuck Threepio is talking about; Artoo does it for him.

    Threepio seems to draw himself up as straight as he can. “I have conducted extensive research on the subject of human childrearing in anticipation of Mistress Padmé giving birth. Holding an infant and gently bouncing them in the parent’s arms is thought to be an excellent calming method.”

    “Oh,” Anakin says. “I thought you meant… bouncing them on the floor or something.”

His men are dying in scores around him, screaming, spilling their guts onto the pockmarked ground, and something that has been pulling tighter and tighter over the course of the war, over the course of his whole life—between one decapitated droid and the next, something snaps in his chest. He doesn't know it, but he's more than a year early.

    Or: Anakin navigates the path from straight up not noticing, to denial, to buying a pair of ugly sunglasses to hide his unfortunate Darksider eye condition, to a number of Sith lords dying in uniquely creative ways. If he reaches acceptance, it just might save the galaxy.
