    "Hi, solnyshko.”
The Russian pet name set a firework off inside Shane's mind as he heard it cooed from behind him. The intonation was just as he remembered, but the voice was much deeper.

He turned and felt himself short circuit. It took every ounce of willpower to not let his jaw drop cartoonishly to the floor. Shane would recognize his individual features anywhere, even after 5 years. But it was as if someone had snapped their fingers and the smug, silly Russian boy who had been attached to Shane's hip for 3 summers was transformed into some sort of fucking Adonis right before his eyes.

“Ilya-” was all Shane managed before strong arms were wrapped around his waist and lifting him off the ground in a greeting all too familiar from years ago.

    OR
When Shane Hollander & Ilya Rozanov spent their summers as teens in an elite hockey camp, they quickly became inseparable friends. But they lose touch when Shane moves on as a prospect for the NHL and Ilya for the KHL.

Years later, Montreal makes a bold move to take the hottest player in the KHL. After hearing of the Russian's reputation, the Montreal Captain is tasked with keeping his old best friend and new teammate out of trouble.

    Summary

Shane decided it was time to call in reinforcements. Ilya’s depression wasn’t a secret anymore. It had taken time but slowly he opened up to the team, and eventually the public, about his mental health struggles. It was important to him to fight the stigma, to show that everyone needed help sometimes, to talk openly about going to therapy and taking medications. Shane was so proud of him. It was a long road to get where they were, both Ilya and Shane struggled, but they were doing their best. They were on a team that supported them unconditionally and loved each other like family.

    That’s why he called Harris.

Or: Shane is away in the States to do brand shoots and it happens to coincide with the worst depressive episode has had in years. Thousands on miles away and feeling powerless, Shane does the only thing he can think of: call the Centaurs to check on Ilya. What follows is a week of Shane and Ilya's front door revolving as the Cens come through in the only way they know how; with unconditional love and support.

    Summary

“No vodka?” Rozanov asks, tsking in disapproval but looking amused. “What then? What does the great Shane Hollander want when he does a good job? What is your vice, Hollander?”

“Hmmmm, mangoes,” Shane sighs out wistfully. It’s not a dangerous allergy for him, but it does mean being itchy and sometimes a little queasy for a couple of days after. Really he knows that he should probably avoid them altogether, but with every other restriction he has and with how controlled he is with his life even outside of that, it’s his one little indulgence, a pressure-relief valve of one bad choice to let some steam off at the end of a season, when he carves out time in his cottage when he can make his annual bad choice and enjoy a few days of wild mango madness before he makes himself buckle back into the restraints he usually keeps his life in.

He looks up when he hears Rozanov snort.

“Mangoes?” Rozanov repeats, tugging his shirt over his head. “Really?”

“They’re good,” Shane defends. “Better than vodka,” he adds, pointedly.

(shane has food allergies but makes an exception for mangoes) (5 times ilya didn't find out about this allergy and 1 time he did)
