    Summary

"Hello Ody," Eurylochus says and Odysseus sighs and relaxes a rough hand comes to rest on his face. Eurylochus's hands, Polites hands are softer and they clasp around his own, and Eurylochus inspects his face. He's sure that he looks tired, eyebags dawning on his face. The hands on his face dance around his eyes, lightly tapping at his lips and then turning his face to the left, inspecting the scars that ran up the side of his face.

    "You look tired."

    ~ “..penny..?”

That stopped Polites in his tracks. Wasn’t that his wife’s name? Or at least close to it? Did he think he was his wife? He must’ve been truly out of it. Or he was just half asleep. Either way, Polites didn’t know how to respond, just sitting there, confused and shocked. Odysseus reached out to him, grabbing onto his hand.

    Summary

In the nineth year of the Trojan War, Odysseus stumbles upon a little boy in the forests of Troy. With Achilles refusing to fight and the Achaeans at a distinct disadvantage, he doesn't have the time or energy to deal with bringing a Trojan child back to camp and the uproar that will likely follow it.

It really is too bad that Odysseus is nothing if not a victim to his fate-- and to the tear-filled eyes of a boy not much younger than his son.

or: my take on an astyanax lives au with inspiration taken from the events of 'the horse and the infant' and the iliad (though, you don't need to have read it to understand what's happening).
