Over the next few weeks, Izuku kept returning to the cove. He brought a few gifts for Katsuki—slices of dried kelp, a pretty shell, things he had figured out mermaids often liked from his studies at the laboratory—but Katsuki never reacted beyond a slightly interested lift of his eyebrows. Still, Izuku was lucky just to have the attention of the most gorgeous person he had ever seen, mer or human.
As if it weren’t enough that Katsuki was devastatingly handsome, he was cute, too, with the way he scrunched his nose up when the sunlight hit his eyes or he idly splashed his tail in the water.
When the mer he’s been meeting brings him a gift on his birthday, Izuku can only assume it’s a birthday present, much to Katsuki’s dismay. Apparently, even marine biologists can struggle to recognize courting gifts.

He tracks a bead of rain water running a path down Merlin’s torso, changing course when it hits his hipbone. Arthur feels his mouth go dry, his face heating. Why did he have to go hunting?
Merlin takes the tunic from Arthur’s outstretched hand but then pauses. Arthur pulls his eyes away, afraid he’s been caught out.
