Derek leant back and shrugged, It doesn't matter that he saw Spencer scoff down that same cake at Penelope's birthday a couple years prior, and it doesn't matter that they both remember it and know he's, for some god-forsaken reason, lying.

Summary
After a case leaves an eight-year-old girl temporarily in their care, Aaron Hotchner and Spencer Reid don’t intend to become anything more than safe adults in a chaotic situation.
But Ellie latches onto them with the kind of trust neither of them is prepared for—and neither of them knows how to give back halfway.
What starts as temporary supervision turns into shared mornings, shared silence, and a quiet understanding neither man is willing to name out loud.
When Ellie finally has to leave, they expect things to go back to normal.
Instead, they realize they never really had a normal to return to.
And some things don’t end just because the case is closed.
(Basically, long story short: A child profiles them into realizing they love each other and practically single-handedly brings them together)

Summary
Since David Rossi and Jason Gideon are such good friends and work together rather well, it would make sense that their protégés would work together well and be friends as well, right? Aaron Hotchner and Spencer Reid would happily tell you that you're wrong and then go on a very long rant as to why the other man is atrocious. As years pass and changes in the unit occur, they adapt to new challenges, stresses, and people. There are three main consistent factors within the BAU: the semi-acceptable coffee kept in the break rooms, that Hotch and Reid have exceptionally high standards for their teams and themselves, and that Hotch and Reid absolutely hate one another.

His eyes were raking across Spencer’s body, making him feel small and vulnerable. His hair stood on end as the man analyzed, feeling more and more uncomfortable as time stretched on slowly. His captor’s words were only increasing his uneasiness— fun, game, appeal, a perfect replica— wondering just how bad things were about to get for him.
The man took a step closer to Spencer, now only a few inches away. “If you don’t wanna end up like Cody, you just need to follow one simple rule.”
He grabbed Spencer’s chin with his rough hands, forcing Spencer to stare straight up at him. He leaned in close, his breath hot and prickly against Spencer’s face. The younger man cringed, trying to pull himself away from his captor, but he was stuck in place.
The man looked at him, dissecting his facial features with his eyes. He grinned widely, causing a shiver to ripple down Spencer’s small frame.
“Obey me like your life depends on it.”
