Regulus would be the new heir, and that was objectively amusing and catastrophic in equal measure.
But as it happened, nothing about sitting in the cart as it rattled along the uneven forest road was remotely funny. There was another reason why no rebel was particularly worried about what Sirius could or couldn't see, which was that even if their ankles and wrists hadn't been tied, there was no way James was in any condition to escape.
