‘I just get so sad when the zombies eat the walnuts,’ whined David, his eyes glittering with the beginnings of tears. ‘They look so hurt and upset!’
‘Oh, God, this game is gonna turn you into one of those ultra-vegan freaks that only eat fruit that falls off the tree, isn’t it?’ Max stood up in his seat so that he was towering over David and poked a finger forcefully into his chest. ‘Suck it up, camp man. It’s either the walnuts or the entire garden. You gotta sacrifice the few to save the many.’
David huffed and crossed his arms. ‘I don’t believe that’s true at all. Everyone deserves to be saved.’
Max snorted in disbelief, plopping back into his seat and pulling his cup up to his face. He stared into the murky black liquid. ‘Not everyone can be,’ he muttered, taking a sip and feeling the bitter flavour coat his tongue.
There’s a lengthy silence before David speaks again and Max can feel his jade eyes carefully considering him.
‘Maybe not, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth trying.’

Summary
Plants always came in pairs.
For decades, scientists on Old Earth assumed that plants were a singular organism with two segments, one large mass of roots, thorns, and wings that was wrapped around a smaller, delicate, humanoid plant.
Merely a few years into space travel on the SEEDS ship, a team of scientists had been able to separate the two parts of the plant. They discovered each part could survive on its own. They each had their own biorhythms, they pulsed light and processed nutrients completely in isolation, although neither could create anything without the other.
The ‘plant’ was really made of two beings, interwoven; the vines encircling the humanoid, wrapping around it like armor.

Vash's children are whipsmart, unfairly fuckin' cute, and absolute terrors. Vash would do anything to protect them, and now Wolfwood thinks he would too. Yes, he knows deep down this is the wide road to unspeakable tragedy, but he wants it as much as he ever has anything, this little piece of the world, Vash's kids, his kids, something like hope .
Knives, now that he knows about them, now that he's found out just how treacherous a secret his brother can keep, will stop at nothing to get his independents, his children back where they belong, at his side. And his brother. This world is for them, after all. Them and their children.
Vash sees him in their eyes, their faces. In the way one laughs, the way one talks, the way one rages. He can lose them all in heartbeat, he knows. He knows he will. He can only try and protect them, he can only fail. They are everything good in this world of his, and everything to be afraid of.
Vash is hiding a secret aboard SEEDS 3, and no one is normal about it. (except when they are)
