Hawkins Middle School’s seventh-grade class sat in near silence, broken only by the rhythmic clicking of pens and the uneasy shuffling of feet. From his seat near the window, Mike Wheeler tried to appear as unbothered as everyone else seemed to be. No one here knew what he really was.
