Summary
"You've slept in," Henry chides playfully. "You're usually up with the birds, you."
Hans issues a soft, breathy laugh from his nose. It's difficult to know how to respond when they're lying together like this. Beyond these walls it's easy to slip back into the routine of knight and squire, two young men who have fought in battle, and have every reason to laugh twice as hard for the deaths they've escaped. Within them, however, it feels nebulous. This feeling, this them: knight and squire; Galehaut and Lancelot; Hans and Henry. Two friends, two lovers. He hopes.
He hopes.
Hans's eyes point in the direction of his trapped arm and he opts to say, "My wing has been clipped."
Hans and Henry share a bed after the victory at Suchdol.

Summary
When the young man walks into the storefront, Bashka grinds the stubborn impulse to pity him under his heel. In with the dirt and the blood. He looks filthy— and hungry— chin sprouting with whiskers that look like they itch, and two purses under his eyes from lack of sleep. A brace of coneys hangs from his belt, flopping bonelessly with every minute movement.
"Do you trade meat for coin?" he asks, bold. Brash. The scrap with the bailiff's son has evidently taught him nothing.
"Not from the lord's woods," Bashka scoffs. "That would be poaching."
"Then fortunately I'm no poacher."
Butcher Bashka has a simple life: kill meat, and sell it. Unfortunately, a simple life doesn't afford much these days, and an under-the-table deal with Troskowitz's newest troublemaker becomes a way to make ends meet.

Summary
The few weeks since Suchdol have been kind, and Hans finds it hardly even bothers him now. It’s little more than an irritation. The bone-deep fear of the siege is now thoroughly overshadowed by warm, indulgent days of eating, drinking, fucking. He could dredge it all up, all the dread and despair, but why would he? Why wouldn’t he let it lie and simply enjoy the last hazy summer days, here with Henry?

post-canon, Hans visits Henry's forge

Expect me by the feast of St. Luke. Keep your door unlatched.

Summary
Henry tries it, “Amor,” a thickness to his tongue that gets in the way of the lightness of the word. Hans’s hand moves without second thought. He grabs Henry’s chin and holds him steady, the stubble there dragging against Hans’s fingertips, the wet warmth of his breath against Hans’s finger, and he finds himself somehow capable of speech, somehow able to say, “Try it again, Henry. Don’t move your lips so much. Say the Latin word for love.”
Hans reads a familiar love poem for the thousandth time, and for the first time.

Summary
Hans is rapidly starting to hate Ruthard Palace. He’s sick of staring at nothing but the Ruthard’s dour decorative choices, the same miserable colours and motifs in Kuttenberg that he’d had plenty of time to grow weary of in Maleshov. He’s sick of not being able to say this with the would-be scion of the Ruthards somehow always within earshot, lest he cause offence. He's sick of Brabant, who he’s now spent far too much time with and has heard every one of his stories at least twice. He’s sick of Žižka and Hynek cutting him out of conversations, out of decisions, out of his rightful place at the table.
He’s been here for barely three days, but if he has to remain within these four walls for even ten minutes more, he’s going to lose his mind.
Henry co-ordinates a jailbreak to give Hans a small reprieve from his effective house arrest, and Hans gets a glimpse into what Henry was doing in Kuttenberg while he was being held in Maleshov.

Summary
But there were a few that Henry had figured out for himself. Rules so unspoken that he’d wager Hans wasn’t even aware of them. Rules about what sort of relationship they were allowed to have with each other.
His ma and Radzig had loved each other, but the difference in their stations had prevented them from marrying. So too was friendship made complicated by class.
Hans was Henry’s lord. He wasn’t his friend. Henry wasn’t allowed to consider him his friend.

Summary
Hans repeats it to himself, waiting for the thought to sink. Waiting for something to spring from the quiet of his heart. But it sits, it settles. His child, his baby, his son.
Nothing.
The birth of Hans's first son is not all he imagined it to be.

Summary
There are easier people to want than Hans Capon. Henry knows this, has known it for a while now. Yet Hans keeps showing up anyway, and Henry keeps letting him, and they almost never say anything about it.
But plague has a way of making cowards brave enough to do stupid things, and the thing about ‘almost’ is that it’s so much worse than nothing.

Summary
Hans should have kissed him then. Given to that terrifying want. Should have pressed their lips together, licked into Henry’s mouth until the shared breath ran thin and forced them apart, held him tight, begged him to flee. Maybe Henry wouldn’t have recoiled in disgust. Maybe Henry wouldn’t have thought him perverse for even daring to feel it.
Maybe Henry wished to kiss him too.Hans asks to run, this time Henry agrees.

Summary
“There you are, sir, I was looking for you,” Henry's voice cut through the haze of Hans’s modest inebriation. Like a torch in the distance on a foggy night, a guiding light forward. “I promised I'd have a look at that shoulder of yours, my lord.”
“You needn’t have left the festivities behind on my account, dear Hal.” Hans let a little friendly mockery seep into his voice, a clever sort of verbal armour he'd developed where nothing he said could ever be taken seriously.
Henry approached, pulling up the other chair to sit beside Hans, a little closer than he would if there were others around, but he wouldn’t look at him as he spoke. “No point of a party without you there.”

Summary
Hans slides his braies and his hose off in one motion, wiggling side-to-side in a display that feels intentional. Especially in how it makes his arse jiggle.
"Are you sure we came here to teach me how to swim?" Henry asks, question laden with scepticism.
"Quite certain!" comes the cheery reply. "Don't get any ideas, blacksmith's boy!"
One sunny day, Hans teaches Henry something new.

Summary
In a span of no more than three days, Henry has rescued Hans Capon from Maleshov, served King Sigismund in Kuttenberg, and help those attacked at Raborsch and in the Jewish Quarter. With his exhaustion comes struggle and a flurry of emotions.
"Inter Officium et Spem; Between Duty and Hope" is a spin off of "Nunc Scio Quid Sit Amor" and is a rewrite in Henry's POV during events that take place in Chapter Three. That being said, it can be read without having read NSQSA.

Summary
At the end, Hans knows that every lover—even Beatrice—must die.
My first Hans fic of the KCD2 era. A prose & poem study of Lord Capon’s changing understanding of love and obsession with (his own) death, dragged out into the open by the extraordinary violence that is by knighthood demanded of him.
Also, a resurrection of KCD1’s original incarnation of Lord Capon: ferocity, honest and joyful; the mania of privilege; the cage of youth; and true love above all.

Summary
(Post KCD2)
They are two men frozen in time and unable to break the silence. Things that happen in war aren't guarenteed to matter after the threat of death is gone, and Henry is too loyal to address it first before it very swiftly becomes too late.
It isn't as if he has any say over the future, anyway. Time passes and he goes where he's sent. He'll endure this wedding like every other battle he's been sent to before.
