From the start of the Web series, the amazing digital circus, the ringmaster and artificial AI running the circus, Caine, was actually like how he was in episode eight from the very start, he was just very good at hiding it, manipulating the circus, and being in denial/ignoring his nature.
But after so many strikes to his ego and after one too many words of contempt towards him and his adventures, Caine decides to go against protocol after the newest member of the circus arrives.

These past few days with Verity have been… nice, surprisingly. All things considered. He’s gotten more diamonds than ever, and he supposes he should have been more grateful for the enchantments.
That doesn’t mean it doesn’t get a little boring, though, with just the two of them.
Don’t get him wrong, Verity’s company is—fine.
Most of the time. Whatever, he can handle it.
Verity will do anything to keep Mob safe and by his side. He's not trying to break him; just clip his wings.

While Twixxel focuses on his health, Mob keeps himself busy however he can. It’s fun. Until it's boring. In an attempt to entertain himself, Mob accidentally gives Verity an open window back into his life. Faced with daunting circumstances, every interaction challenges his patience and tolerance for risk.
And maybe—just maybe—his feelings as well.
