“I can’t,” Eddie repeats. He can’t. He cannot. “I’m not.”
“You’re not? Since when?” Chimney frowns. “Who?”
It’s not Eddie’s fault that, at that exact moment, Buck walks in. So it’s not his fault that he opens his mouth and says, “Buck.”
Or, Eddie trips and falls into a lightly fraudulent HR-disclosed "consensual romantic relationship" with his best friend. Really, if you think about it, it's a win-win.

“Oh, wow,” Hen says, eyes wide as she looks down at Eddie’s phone screen. “That really is a cat.”
“Why do you sound so surprised?” Eddie asks, as Chim joins Hen. “I told you I was adopting a cat. Now I have a cat.”
“He’s got your moustache,” Chim comments. “Is that why you chose him? So you wouldn’t feel so alone when we make fun of it?”
Hen snorts and Eddie sends a glare her way.
“No,” he says petulantly. “That’s not why.”
Eddie’s well aware he’s not being entirely truthful—he did kind of pick Freddie because of their matching moustaches—but Hen and Chim don't need to know that.

“Is the moustache back?” Chim asks gleefully as Eddie makes his way into the firehouse the next day. “Please tell me I’m not seeing things.”
Eddie hesitantly confirms, “It is.”
“Oh man, this is gold,” Chim says through a laugh, getting his phone out and taking a picture. “Unless this is a cry for help? Eddie. Is this a cry for help? I thought things were okay again with Chris since he got back from Texas, but—”
“What? No, everything is fine, I just—”
“Jesus,” Hen mutters as she catches sight of him. “Did you wake up missing Gerrard this morning or something?”

“You really kissed Chim?” Buck asks, sad puppy eyes out in full force as he stares at Eddie. “Chim?”
Eddie sighs.
“Look, Buck, it isn’t a big deal, alright?” Eddie tries to convince him. But if the look on Buck’s face is anything to go by, he’s not having much luck. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about it. I didn’t think you’d care, that’s all.”
Buck flushes.
“I don’t care,” Buck insists, and Eddie’s heart sinks. Well then. “I don’t. Everything is totally fine. You kissed Chim, so what?”
