Summary
Growing up in a shrine means seeing spirits or dead people's souls are merely a daily happening for him. It's even part of his job to help those souls pass on to the afterlife.
Kururugi Suzaku and his partner/cousin, Sumeragi Kaguya have been acknowledged as world's best in dealing with spirit matters. So it's not really surprising when the Britannian Royal Family calls them for their service. Yet what they never expect is to deal with the soul of the infamous Demon Emperor. Reinhard's smile slowly grows wider with each of their input- A warm feeling spreading through his chest like an ice cube being dunked into a vat of warm water, slowly thawing, slowly melting. But headaches don't leave with simple feelings of happiness, so it intrudes and makes his smile waver for a moment. He hides it by taking a sip of water.
His headache rings in his head, his vision clouds for a moment before something shifts. Something feels terribly, terribly wrong.
Subaru only sees a glimpse, a glimpse of Reinhard's eyes widening just a fraction before he rises and opens his mouth to shout something-

When Noé moved, scooting closer to the traincar window to watch the passing sights, the hair that usually covered his forehead shifted, and Vanitas thought the skin underneath looked darker than he remembered. It was difficult to recall, though, and even more difficult to be sure that it was different since Noé’s skin was already naturally dark.
Before Vanitas could even think to say anything about Noé’s exhaustion or what could have been—could it have been?—surely it wasn’t—bruising on his forehead, Noé himself spoke.
“S— Sleepy…!”
He could hardly keep his eyes open.
