“Many men have struggled to have those eyes even spare them a glance,” Peter simply stated. “An honest but naive treasure that managed to fool a dragon.” He placed the crown on Stiles’ head, amused when the boy immediately pushed away from him once the ornament was in place. “Hopefully those eyes can fool the Seven Kingdoms into thinking you could love a wolf.”

“My bird is just trying to do me a favor and tune you out!” Arthur snapped and took a long breath “The point is they can’t be around each other. So unless you want Emmy to pluck out this lion’s eyes I suggest you tell him to bugger off.” He snapped. Merlin was inclined to tell Arthur to bugger off himself, but was immediately distracted by one word.
“Emmy?” He repeated and smiled. “You did name him.”

Eddie lets him approach, this time. Lets him reach out to touch, to curl his fingers in the hem of Eddie’s shirt.
“Sorry, I know I probably sound crazy, I just––” he pulls it up, stares at Eddie’s side, and then lets out a hysterical little noise that sounds like a cross between a laugh and a sob.
“You’re ok,” Steve says.
His fingers are hot on Eddie’s skin, pressed light and shockingly reverent to the space between his hip and rib cage.
“You’re ok,” he repeats. It sounds like he’s trying to convince himself.
“Hey,” Eddie says. It comes out more breathless than he’d prefer but Steve fucking Harrington has him backed against a wall in a bathroom with his hands up Eddie’s shirt so he thinks a little lack of air is warranted. “Are you ok?”
The fingers on his abdomen flex. "No,” Steve says. His eyes are wide and fathomless and the look on his face is terrible. “No, I’m not even remotely ok.”

Eddie reaches a hand, slowly, towards the cat, palm up and open like he was taught to greet dogs, and the beast hisses at him.
“Oh, relax,” he says, rolling his eyes, and inches his hand closer. “I’m bigger than you.”
The cat’s eyes are narrowed into slits, zeroed in on his hand, but she doesn’t hiss again. Eddie’s not sure how she does it, but he gets the distinct impression that she’s doing him a huge favour when she finally lets him get close enough to run gentle fingers over the top of her head.
Her fur is dry and chalky, like she’s got a layer of grime settled on top of her. Eddie’s familiar with the feeling.

"“—thanks for hanging out with him,” Buck’s saying when Eddie gets within hearing range. “Eddie’s back on shift with me at the firehouse, and we’re still adjusting to the new schedule.”
Siena says, “Oh! I didn’t realize both you and your husband were firefighters!” Eddie stops mid-step, his heart hammering against the inside of his chest.
Buck’s going to correct her. Buck’s going to say, oh, we’re not married, and Siena’s going to go, oh, but Eddie said, and Buck’s going to realize that Eddie’s been pretending they’re married for months, and he’s going to ask why and—
Buck grins, nodding at Siena with a hand on Christopher’s shoulder, letting him bump against Buck’s hip as he rocks in place on his crutches. “Yeah, he was on a break for a while, but now he’s at the station again. It’s been great having him back.”
Christopher notices Eddie then, paused halfway between them and the door like a weirdo, but because he’s the best kid, he just says, “Dad!” and hurries over to get in a hug. Another benefit to rejoining the 118—the 24-hour shifts have Christopher wanting more hugs again."

Summary
The mall is destroyed. El’s lost her powers. Billy’s dead. So is Hopper. Steve is probably fucked up mentally for life, but what else is new? Steve has a pretty good thing going. He has kids to take care of, an awkward lesbian to advise. Max needs a big brother. Hawkins is his home, and Steve can’t just leave. Not while he’s still needed. He knows one day he won’t be. But for now, it’s enough.
Or: the Harringtons sell their house before the real estate market goes belly-up. Hawkins has been going downhill for years, anyway. His parents give Steve a choice: move with them and finally take that job at his dad’s company or get left behind. For Steve, it wasn’t much of a choice at all. He may not have a house anymore, but his BMW’s backseat has served as a bed plenty of times already. No one has to know. The party has enough problems to worry about.
