Summary
When the Mind Flayer once again begins using Will Byers as a spy, the Party blindfolds him and hides him away in a safe house, desperate to keep everyone alive long enough to find a solution.
For seven days, Will is isolated, monitored, and slowly unraveling. He wants to survive. He wants to stop being a weapon. He wants to get over his feelings for Mike Wheeler.
That last part becomes impossible when Mike volunteers to be the one watching over him—and discovers just how far Will is willing to go to protect the ones he loves.

phil looks at him with equal amounts despair and love. 'this feels right,' dan thinks, 'this is what love should be for me: painful. it’s what i deserve.'

Summary
When the kiss ended, Dan ignored all the applause and pressed their foreheads together, took a breath just to feel the hot spring air swell deep in his lungs, tricked himself into thinking he could inhale Phil if he tried hard enough. When they were this close, so close that Dan could count the frail eyelashes that stuck out from Phil’s translucent eyelids, he forgot himself. Dan Howell became a heart without a body.

Summary
When Phil was unconscious Dan wanted to wrap him in his arms, tell him, I’ll be your blood flow, your diagnosis, I’ll be your hedonism. You are the greatest consequence to ever happen to me. But Phil didn’t happen to people. He didn’t inflict himself. He wouldn’t know how to cause damage if it ground itself into his ribs. Not like the earthquake that was Dan Howell.
Or: Daniel Howell never really learned how to relax. (Set during their vacation to Turkey)

Summary
Dan once told him that there is every color star except for green. Green is Phil’s favourite color. Secretly. Even more than blue, but he tells people it’s blue because it’s what they expect from him. Like dark hair. There are never stars in London and no green stars in the universe and if Phil can’t find anything in the night sky how is he ever supposed to gather the stars up to dye them green with the bath towels?
Dan stirs gently but stays asleep. His movement is just further proof that Phil is breaking everything, even the empty shards of cruel ceramic sky.
or: musings on phil’s anxiety, self image issues, and new hair + how dan loves him through it all.

Summary
“You once told me that the human eye is god’s loneliest creation. How so much of the world passes through the pupil and still it holds nothing. The eye, alone in its socket, doesn’t even know there’s another one, just like it, an inch away, just as hungry, as empty. Opening the front door to the first snowfall of my life, you whispered, “Look.”
— Ocean VuongOr:
If there’s two eyes, surely there needs to be two Avatars of the Eye. Elias, in his infinite knowledge, accounted for this. Jonathan Sims hasn’t seen Martin Blackwood since the Jane Prentiss attack.
[story takes place immediately before the Beholding Ritual.]

Summary
Will Byers is excellent at hiding.
He’s been hiding his entire life. From monsters, from his friends, from himself.
After the Mind Flayer leaves Will’s body, life returns to normal. Again. Except this time, Will’s friends are growing up without him. They’re having growth spurts and dating girls, while Will realizes there’s a lot more to him than he originally thought. There are emotions he’s finally finding a name for, thoughts that are starting to make sense.
Will Byers hides more secrets than just his feelings, though. He hides the way lights flicker around him. The way objects move. The way his nose bleeds.
But above all, he hides that there's still something lurking. Something in the coldest corners of his mind.
[Canon divergence set after season two. Title from Starman by David Bowie.]
