Summary
Ursa may have been a lot of things, but she was not a naive woman. On the contrary, she noticed lots of details that people usually missed. Rubbing hands, discreet glances, strained smiles. So many gestures could be the tell for a lie. This was a particularly useful skill in the Fire Nation palace: it made her hard to manipulate. Her mind was a locked room to which the key was well protected. Unfortunately, that skill was not useful in protecting others from manipulation. That meant, when Ozai started pitting their children against each other, Ursa noticed, but didn’t know what to do.
____________Ursa cares more about Azula. She tries to distance her from her father’s manipulations. That changes some things.

“Fire Lord Zuko?” The Grand Chamberlain inquired, and from his tone, Zuko gathered it was not the first time he had called out for his attention.
“Yes, Grand Chamberlain?”
“What did you want to do in regards to the Southern Water Tribe’s request?”
“The request?” Zuko asked, well aware it was already too late to pretend he had been listening.
“The Southern Water Tribe requests your presence for the grand opening of their first school…. That they plan on naming it in honor of you, Fire Lord Zuko,” The Grand Chamberlain’s face was contorted in a funny way, very obviously fighting for his life to look as unannoyed as possible.
“In my…honor?” Zuko’s eyebrow raised in surprise, and he was sure he had not heard right.
“Yes, my Lord” The Grand Chamberlain was again struggling to keep his face schooled into neutrality, although a twitch in his left eye was about to be his undoing, “ and Master Katara has requested your presence…” Zuko suddenly felt like the floor had fallen out from underneath him.

Its been 10 years since Zuko had been banished. 10 years of searching for the Avatar 10 years of failure. But now that he has found the boy, why does it seem like he's chasing his little waterbender instead.
