Summary
Ryland Grace saved the earth about 30 years ago; For him, it's only felt like 8. Time works differently in space, however the loneliness stays the same. Of course he loves the Eridians, though the strangling desire for human connection has only worsened as he’s grown older— and not aged. Erid's keeping its savior alive, and Ryland hates it. It manifests into dreams, sick and cruel dreams of a man who could give Ryland everything he ever wanted.
So after eight years on Erid (and months of a relationship falsified in his mind), he, Rocky, and Adrian embark on a trip back to earth to bring back small pieces of it to Erid. Missing humans is one thing, but missing humanity is another that Grace still hasn't gotten over the betrayal of, so collecting samples and artifacts will do.
That is until they pass by Europa, a moon orbiting Jupiter that's said to contain oceanic life. A baseless rumor, one that Ryland heavily doubted, until he saw the bleeding red that erupted from it, and learned that the stars have died off. Life is fading fast, and it's due to whatever lurks beneath the icy surface of Europa.

"Grace! Grace!! Much noise in console!" Even through the radio Grace could hear alarms beeping and whistling in sudden protest, the ship itself groaning at a rapid change in- gravity??
Something was pulling on the ship- heck, something was pulling on him! It was suddenly hard to hold on as the unknown force tugged the entire rig forward. Looking around wildly, Grace’s stomach dropped from shock. Inky blackness spread out in front of him as far as he could see, void of any of the points of light he had been previously using to navigate. The stars? Were the stars- gone??

In the darkness, something ancient and hungry is awake, moving between universes and eating the stars. Its unwilling champion, Simon, has been rescued from the hell of the SM-13 by an awkward angel who seems just as confused as he is. Now he's a prisoner aboard a ship full of very microorganisms his new god seems to fear. Simon just wants to live. Grace and Rocky just want to make it to Erid. And somewhere out there, a desperate band of Consolidation operatives just want their black box back.
