“We’re on the search for a demon… A, um, an old acquaintance of mine,” Monkey King said quietly, “He’s one of our best bets if we wish to stay ahead of Lady Bone Demon’s plans, and, we really need someone with powers like his if we wish to survive this.”
“Oh?” Mk said, surprised, “Who is it?”
“Doubt you would know him, kid,” Wukong smiled, stretching.
“But I’m like, your number one fan! I must know him, duh, or at least heard of him.”
“Doubt it kid,” Monkey King laughed, “As theatrical as he was, he was always one to… stick to the shadows, so to say.”
OR: Wukong doesn't kill Macaque... surprisingly, this doesn't fix much.

Macaque is killed by a possessed Wukong during the battle against the Lady Bone Demon. He wakes up in a world and time not his own, with a Wukong who has never met a Macaque. Now stuck in this different universe, Macaque has to navigate his way through all the strange differences and a Wukong who is far too fascinated with not being the only one of his kind.
Or-
I chew up then spit out LMK Macaque into the actual JTTW world. Not back in time before Wukong killed him but in the actual novel (sorta). Won’t be entirely accurate to JTTW but I wanted a fic where the LMK characters interact with their JTTW counterparts for a long time now.
