Summary
At the Ministry of Magic the polyjuice potion ends too soon. In a mad dash to separate herself from Harry and Ron to give them time to escape, Hermione ends up in the Department of Mysteries with her back to the Veil, Snatchers and Aurors shooting spells and curses at her. As a last resort, Hermione chooses to fall through the Veil, chooses death, instead of being captured.
However, instead falling into a peaceful death, the Veil spits her back out into a parallel world completely devoid of magic. Full of spies, advanced technology, and a glowing-eyed, metal-armed assassin with his sights set on capturing her, Hermione must figure out how to return home or be lost in this world forever.

There are legends among the pureblood families about Keepers-special witches who have the power to restore a fallen House. If any House needed a Keeper, it's the Ancient and Noble House of Black. Hermione/Multi (Cygnus, Orion, Sirius AND Regulus). Polyandry.
A/N: Right. So here's the deal: I've been writing for the QLFC as Beater #2 for the Falmouth Falcons. I have had all kinds of crazy plot bunnies, but very little time to work on any of them. This is a test sample. MistraRose PMed with the idea of Keepers. She wanted a story with Hermione as a Keeper for the House of Black. We ping-ponged ideas back and forth, and I think I've definitely put my own stamp on the concept, but the original idea was MistraRose's. I'm leaving this up as an example for her to look over. If this is what she wants, then we move forward. If she thinks I've lost my damn mind… well… this will go bye-bye.
Just so we're all clear—this story would be Cygnus, Orion, Sirius and Regulus AND Hermione. And YES this is one of those "let's pull out some dead wizards, brush them off, and have them shack up with our female lead character (who happens to be Hermione)".

Summary
The problem with dismissing and at best barely tolerating squibs and muggleborns is that the wizarding world never realized that every muggleborn has at least one squib ancestor in the last two generations or that these squibs still carry the family magic they are unable to wield. The totems are sought out either during a ritual at age seven or during extensive meditation. Usually, because of the nature of children, they never focus enough on these totems to befriend them and for them to claim them in return.
There are sometimes though when a child has nothing but time to spend. One such time occurs when Harry Potter, the child of a muggleborn and a pureblood, a child who had never lived with them long enough to be taught that he’s a Potter and therefore wasn’t taught to expect a gryphon. When he falls into a healing coma enforced by his own body at age four, he has no expectations, so he doesn’t subconsciously seek any singular totem above any others- the usual reason only one family magic is accepted. He attracts them all and he’s curious enough, lonely enough, to befriend every animal that visits him in his mind, no matter how faint they are or how distant.
