Nemu Kurotsuchi is dead. Mayuri doesn't want to look back. He can only look forward, no matter how much the little personality quirks of Hachigo Nemuri might bother him, forgetting how hard it can be to deal with a child so young.
Akon doesn't buy that act for a moment, and as Nemuri seems to start remembering things that she has no way of knowing, Mayuri isn't sure how much longer he can make himself believe it either.

Summary
When Abuela nearly lost everything, letting go was the answer. Her death years later poses the question. Mirabel was in no way ready to assume the role left to her, or really, ready to confront impermanence at all. Bruno still runs and hides from the misery of his family as a habit of decades. The two of them walk forward into love, fate, and the bewildering hurt of doing the wrong things for the right reasons.
Mirabel learns to accept loss, and Bruno learns to accept love.

I love this fic. It manages to capture Brumira's nuance and complexity in a genuine way. It's realistic but not defeatist (I'm being cheesy, but I think it has the right amount of hope that only true love can have). It has a certain quality that makes their relationship not only feel unforced in any way, but also a natural outcome of the established story. I always felt that Brumira had it in them inherently, but it's not so easy to pull it off, and this story achieved it and then some. My opinion might be completely biased, but it's a worthy sequel to the movie
