Zelda nodded along with Link’s words. “You’re right. We’ll need to secure the champions and their Divine Beasts. But the guardians… they will need to be dismantled. They hold a greater threat than the beasts. And… there’s the matter of getting my past self to unlock her sacred power.”
“And you unlocked yours when…”
“When I acted in love for you,” she finished, meeting his gaze. “We need to get our past selves to realize their feelings.”
“You’re saying we need to play matchmaker.”
“Yes.”
“For our past selves.”
“Yes.”
He dragged a hand down his face. “We’re doomed.”

Or: Post-ToTK Link and Zelda, happily married, are investigating a series of disappearances when they’re suddenly sent to before the Calamity. They take it upon themselves to save everyone from impending doom, which includes helping their past selves get along. It’s a lot easier said than done. Oh, and more people are disappearing. What if it was Lord Eddard Stark, not Robert Baratheon, who faced Prince Rhaegar Targaryen on the banks of the Trident?
Armed with Ice, Eddard Stark meets Prince Rhaegar in single combat amidst the chaos of battle. Steel sings, rivers run red, and in the end, it is Eddard’s blade that strikes true—shattering the rubies from Rhaegar’s breastplate, scattering them into legend. With the prince slain and the Targaryen host broken, the rebel armies rally around Eddard Stark who claims Kingship By Right of Conquest. Gravely wounded from the duel, Ned cannot lead the march to King’s Landing. The task falls to closest friend and brother in all but blood—Lord Robert Baratheon, his task is to secure the Capital and take the Targaryens prisoners. And the most importantly look for the newly anointed King's sister and Lord Robert's own betrothed which will lead him to a certain tower.

Daenerys took a breath, and asked the question that had plagued her ever since leaving King’s Landing. “Your brother, the king, only lost his betrothed, and he hates me. Eddard Stark lost over half his family because of mine, and yet he will welcome me as his kin?” Her voice rose at the last, as she was no longer able to hide her disbelief, her fear.
“Ned Stark is a man of honor,” Stannis said. “He has no interest in avenging his family by tormenting you.” Unlike the king, neither of them said aloud.
(In a world where Viserys Targaryen escaped Westeros without his mother or sister, Daenerys Targaryen grows up as the ward of Stannis Baratheon, living at the mercy of the Great Houses that brought about the downfall of her family.)
