Summary

Summary
Tifa Lockhart has spent her life making herself smaller—silencing her needs, believing love is earned through suffering. When a catastrophic event weaponizes that silence, it costs her the one person she can't live without. Cloud sees her trauma through the lens her secrecy created, and it breaks him. He withdraws—not to punish, but because staying near that pain is unsustainable. Only her truthful confession opens the door to repair.
What follows is a period of healing and reconnection. Even though her old patterns resurface throughout, they learn to deal with it together, accepting that rebuilding trust requires persistence, not perfection.
A year and a half later, they are shown to have found stability, and Cloud shows growing assurance in everyday life. But this triggers an unexpected insecurity in Tifa: if he doesn't need saving, what use is she? When a diplomatic crisis forces a choice, her selflessness leads her to accept a proposal while underestimating its toll. That fragility twists her fears into cold logic—she is holding him back, and the greatest act of love is her absence. In her darkest moment, she confronts the same question Cloud has asked himself all his life: am I good enough?
