Summary
Edward WISHED he could remember what had happened to them. The last clear memory he had was of him trudging after Mustang as he strode into their shared hotel room, documents in hand and trying to tempt Edward with the idea of a spaghetti dinner at the nearby dinner with the promise of letting him have whatever dessert he wanted when his memory grew hazy, like a dream he was trying too hard to remember.
Mustang was still breathing, deep, regular breaths, which was the only solace that Edward could take that he wasn’t near death because he wouldn’t freaking wake up. He really hoped that whatever they had been given, liquid or otherwise, wasn’t fatal, because with his automail out of commission, Edward depended on the bastard to escape their makeshift prison.
And maybe because he was just a little bit worried about him. Just a little. The tiniest, smallest amount of worry.

Edward realized, immediately, how weird it was to not have Mustang sit in his chair, giving him a lecture about unnecessary property damage. And while Mustang being late to work was unheard of and extremely strange, having Hawkeye admit to being clueless about his whereabouts was downright unsettling.
“I’m stopping by his apartment,” Edward said, hands in his pockets, “I still have three hours to catch my train.”
Hawkeye smiled at him with a hint of relief. “Thank you.”
Edward left the office in a hurry, unease growing in his stomach.

“I’m here for Edward Elric,” he announced without preamble, and the girl’s face lit up with a smile he could not bring himself to return.
“Ah, Mister Mustang, is it? I’m glad you could make it here so quickly, we just need you to sign a few things before you can go see your son–but don’t worry, he’s in good hands,” she chattered away, pulling a small stack of papers from a much larger stack of papers that uncomfortably reminded him of his own desk.
He nodded along with her, accepting both the pen and the documents she handed him, mumbling out an uninspired “I’m sure he is.” before her words penetrated the thick fog of exhaustion and the general displeasure that came with filling out hospital paperwork for his reckless subordinate when he should be asleep, thank you very much.
