    Summary

Ilya's on a hotel roof in the middle of the night. The draft is tomorrow, and he can't sleep.

That's when Shane Hollander appears, but he's somehow thirty-five years old, and acting very friendly... and he's wearing glasses. This must be a dream — mustn't it?

    Summary

The first time Shane sees the Voyagers winner’s room, the tiny cell-like cavity cut into the wall of one of the endless tunnels that makes up the layout of his new workplace, his stomach turns. It's a harrowing enough thought, the dubious measure of consent implied by things like sportsmanship and caving to tradition, but fuck.

He tells himself he's just excited by the nature of the room, the figurative coming of age that a winner's room represents.

It has nothing to do with the guilty, illicit idea of the only other person in the league who can hope to match him. And what they might get up to in here, undisturbed, permitted to indulge.

Ilya wins a match, and to the victor go the spoils.

Winners room, but Shane and Ilya have hooked up before and they are so so eager for it. Exceptionally well written. So hot.

    Summary

“You are planning to rob me or what?” He hears Rozanov call, and he can’t help but smile slightly even as he rolls his eyes, closing the door to the linen closet and feeling strangely lighter than when he opened it, reassured that he’s just trying to read into a blank page, that today doesn’t mean anything more than Rozanov doesn’t mind him being around, which is strangely flattering.

“I don’t know,” he calls back. “Don’t Russians like diamonds and fur and stuff? Where should I start looking if I want to know what my options are?”

He hears Rozanov laugh, and it makes him smile.

When he joins him in the living room once more, Rozanov tugs him down to lean against him again. Shane goes easier this time, settling into it, knowing it doesn’t mean anything other than the fact that he just happens to be the closest warm body, the person on Rozanov’s roster who filled today’s slot.

(the tuna meltdown doesn't happen) (this does not mean they get ANY better at communication)

(or: how shane didn't realize he had a boyfriend for several months)

Ilya somehow gets it right during the tuna melt and Shane’s stays. However, are they dating or not? Shane isn’t sure. Perfect.

    Summary

When Shane takes a hard hit on the ice, he wakes up three days later to find his reality has been shattered. But the truth is, it wasn’t reality at all. Just an elaborate set of false memories conjured by a brain injury. 'False memory syndrome' they call it. Shane calls it a nightmare he couldn't have imagined.

    Or

Shane doesn’t have amnesia. Instead, he wakes up wanting his boyfriend only to realize his brain concocted a bunch of fake memories of a nine year situationship and Shane has no idea how to live in his actual reality that Ilya hasn’t been a part of. Luckily, Ilya is…curious.

Did Shane just imagine an entire relationship with Ilya? So good

    Summary

Shane’s jealous, sometimes, of all that autonomy. Rozanov leaves and Shane stays. The leaving is so much easier because you’re in motion, off to new destinations and intentionally disrupted routines. The staying is so much harder because everything’s just slightly different, in the aftermath.

A hotel room is just a hotel room until Shane has to sleep in it alone, knowing what it was like to have Rozanov’s curls pressed against the spare pillow. He gets left but he’s not alone, hoodies and tanktops and the occasional sock - seriously, what kind of psychopath only puts one sock back on when he leaves? - washing up on Shane’s shore like seaglass or broken shells. He carved out space to make someone else fit and now he’s just supposed to… what, exactly? Pretend the silence isn’t louder and the scent of the room hasn’t changed and there aren’t strands of gold on that fucking pillowcase?

Or, Shane weighs the merits of leaving and getting left over the course of his and Ilya's relationship
