"It took Jax three tries before he managed to steady his trembling hand to slot the key into the lock. He watched his fingers shake with a strange, clinical detachment, as if they belonged to someone else.
It took another three to recall which way to turn the key.
He slammed the door with what little energy he had left, then collapsed solemnly onto the bed with a pained groan.
This is going to be a looooong night."
This fic is multi-character centric! While some chapters could be heavily Jax centric, everyone will still get a chance to shine. One of my goals for this fic is to explore platonic relationships which are not found in the show. As well as some romantic! Though the fic is not heavy for all of the lovey-dovey stuff.

The last abstraction wasn't like any other one , not only because of who Jax was, nor because of who Mateo is ,“it” was calm..too calm, that huge tent in the middle of the circus that they all passed by and sometimes stopped drowning in thoughts…they made peace, but even the digital realm isn't stable- Language:

“Caine… this isn't right”
She is so sure, tone gentle but leaving no room for argument. It does nothing to stop him though as he sits here, body glitching and jolting from the mere struggle of it all. Caine knows that he has made so many mistakes with the humans but… he sees it in the way Pomni watches the tent, when she thinks no one is looking. The sadness that lingers there.
At least, that's what he thinks. He isn't sure, not really. Not when it comes to emotions. He thought he knew… and perhaps now… maybe he does, if he can think and feel this way, maybe he can see the way it hurts them. The absence of all those from before. Their most recent loss…

Summary
Thrown into a new adventure before anyone has time to recover, Pomni and Jax are forced to work together while their fallout after the gun adventure still lingers heavily between them. Caine's unsolicited attempt to "fix" interpersonal problems only makes things worse, snowballing into something neither was ever prepared for.
What begins as reluctant cooperation slowly gives way to trust, growing feelings and a confrontation with a past that refuses to stay buried.

"You're not dead," Pomni said with a frown. "Not yet, at least. You're just — indisposed."
At that, Jax gave her a long look as his mouth narrowed out into a little line. Then he sighed quietly. It wasn't the way he used to sigh, with dramatic posturing that begged the attention from anyone even remotely listening. It was small. Tired. Reflexive. Then he sat down with his knees to his chest, glaring into the dark water. The only light here, a single streetlamp, glowed weakly.
"Denial is an ugly color on you. Clashes with your stupid hat."
"Jax — "
"I'm gone," he snapped. His voice echoed in the abyss. "Don't you get it? No one comes back from Abstraction. You're not saving me, you're not helping me grow. All you're doing is keeping my body from rotting." Jax's hands worked their way up to his head, squeezing as he growled, "You're talking to a ghost."

Summary
This had been happening since Jax could remember, even before the circus. He knew it had something to do with his trauma, or whatever, but that didn't matter. What matters is that it sucked. It made him feel like a sniveling child; it made him feel weak.
Or, that trope where Jax regresses involuntarily due to childhood trauma, his own actions, or whenever he feels bad about himself.

Summary
Pomni and the other five digital circus survivors wake up to find that the nightmare they’ve been living for the past several years was an experimental therapy gone wrong. Though much of what they experienced was an illusion, the deaths of the abstracted were very real. It is now up to them to seek justice while trying to reintegrate into their mundane lives.
This is not a direction that I think the show will or should go- it’s just a canon-divergent AU that I thought I could tell an interesting story with.

Post Episode 9. Pomni realizes that she's fallen in love with Jax. It's a terrible mistake, but this is coming from the same woman who breaks into abandoned buildings as a hobby. No one ever said that falling in love was logical.
