“I’m just teasing,” Simon says, voice gentler. Almost apologetic. Definitely still more amused than Ryland cares for. “I’m more surprised than anything.”
The sentence hangs alongside the rush of the shower, bouncing around the side of the tub. Bouncing around inside Ryland’s far too curious brain. Ryland sighs. “Why?”
Simon doesn’t point out the way his voice cracks, a small mercy. “Wasn’t sure you even bothered with lowly things like…in-flight self service.”

Summary
Simon wakes slowly, booting up one atom at a time. The first thing he registers is that he's pleasantly warm— not the suffocating heat of whatever iron lung they had sent him down to die in. The second thing he registers is the plushness of whatever surface he's lying on. There's no harsh metal boiling against his skin. He doesn't immediately open his eyes. His brain feels syrupy and full of fog all at once, and he finds it rather nice to just exist in this soft in-between. He'd done good, hadn't he? Was this Heaven? He died on that ship, in the mouth of a vengeful beast that couldn't recognize its own ghastlyness. Heaven was nice, Simon decided. He liked Heaven.

Ryland finally catches his breath and straightens up “So, what’s so important that couldn’t be sent via e-mail?,” he looks over at the small building near them and finally addresses it “And what the hell is that about?”
“Grace should be happy Grace not alone anymore,” his voice very suddenly drops to a pleasant song, kind of like whale. He doesn’t usually do that and Grace has a bad feeling about this. And not just about Rocky, but about everything. He still doesn’t know what he meant by saying they found ‘life’. But he still can’t help but feel strangely at ease. It’s really interesting to Grace how much sounds can invoke feelings and emotions. Or in his case, drowsiness. He is listening to Rocky, really, but maybe is not fully comprehending what’s being said. Wow, he would fall asleep to it if he could right now. Is he doing this on purpose?
“Eridians found a ship,” he continues.
“Human found inside.”
