Summary
In which a girl who has only ever known a life of peace finds herself at the heart of a revolution, thrusting her into a world of death and destruction. When all that had once made sense suddenly falls apart before her very eyes, she is forced to face who she really is — beyond the beliefs of her faction.
On her Choosing Day, Ember Otium decides to leave her simple life in Amity behind and instead follow the path of risk and reward in Dauntless. Although she struggles to adapt to the culture of her new faction, Ember finds solace in the friends she makes and takes great pride in all the little wins. The biggest culture shock, however, is the continuous taunting she receives from a Candor transfer, Peter Hayes, and her eventual realization of the truth behind why he and his lackeys seem to target her.
The road to becoming Dauntless is tough, and exhausting, and unexpected, but she quickly comes to find that it doesn't end at initiation... instead, Ember must use her new training to survive a deadly revolution while also navigating the unknown territory of first love — both, she finds, requiring a considerable amount of bravery.
