Summary
Is that a pickup line? Maybe. It’s the worst one Geralt has ever heard in his very long life, but that isn’t the problem. The problem races, red hot down the length of his forearm, pooling uncomfortably around his soulmark. The scrawled out writing on the underside of his wrist had told Geralt the first thing his soulmate was going to say to him as soon as he could read. Silly as it had sounded, it’s even more ridiculous out loud.
To say Geralt is not a fan of destiny is a monumental understatement. Given the fact that the soul mark scrawled out on his wrist is the worst pickup line he's ever heard, he doesn't anticipate his soulmate being any more welcome than anything else that life has saddled him with. But the longer he spends with Jaskier, the harder his soulmate is to resist, and somewhere along the way Geralt knows he'll have to reckon with whether his feelings are manufactured by kismet or truly his own.

Summary
Jaskier knows where he ranks in terms of his importance level in their little rag-tag traveling group. He is under no illusion as to who will be cared for and who will be left to suffer alone when both he and Princess Ciri wake up sick. So instead of dealing with the rejection, he decides to just skip over all of that pain and carry on as if nothing is wrong.
Unfortunately, that decision has...consequences.

Summary
A familiar hesitant sound reached his ears as if muffled by layers of cotton, his name, he realized as an afterthought. The noise repeated. He still couldn’t breathe. Why was everything so blurry? Oh, he was crying, right.
A gentle cautious hand was laid on his shoulder, stilling him in his frantic pacing. The touch was nothing like the rough bruising grip from before. The glaring difference was like a breath of fresh air, a lifeline thrown to him as he drowned in the deep vastness of a raging ocean.
“Jaskier?” the Witcher tried again, uncertain.

He read some other bits from the book on his way to Kaer Morhen. Maybe because the Path was too silent without Jaskier’s constant chatter or because he secretly hoped to find some proof of the bard’s bullshit.
The fresh ink on the endpaper said in wavy cursive:
“Dear Eskel,
Knowing that my words have touched the heart of a discerning reader such as yourself fills me with joy. And your brother knows nothing! I did mean every word of this book.
Have a warm winter,
Dandelion”
Geralt smiled and flipped the page to the dedication he’d never noticed before.

“Oh shit,” Jaskier muttered. He crawled as far back into his little shelter as he could fit. He hadn’t planned for this to happen. He hadn’t thought this through at all. He didn’t know what to do next.
In the blink of an eye, the monster had rounded his shield of roots and was staring directly at him.
Now he’d never know what that look in Geralt’s eyes meant, that quick glance he had chosen to direct at Jaskier when it appeared he’d had less than a second left to live himself.
Jaskier’s hands were clenched at his sides. He wanted nothing more than to wrap his arms around his head and make himself as small as possible. But if he was going to die anyway, he wasn’t going to spend his last moments curled up in a frightened little ball.
Or, Geralt is doing a fine job of pretending being followed around by a pining bard does nothing but annoy him, until Jaskier gets hurt.Series

Summary
Geralt remembered a fight, years before, when his leg had been broken. The bone had broken in two places; his knee had shattered. The pain had lasted for days. That had been nine – ten years ago. The bard had been a child then. A tiny child, unable to walk, unable to think from pain. Because of him. It was hard to breathe. When he thought about it too much, it got hard to breathe.
Jaskier has always known he has a soulmate; a soulmate who is in pain a frankly concerning amount of the time. Geralt isn't sure if he believes that old superstition that witchers have no soulmates, but he knows he isn't bonded to anyone. He is alone, and he likes it that way.
Or, soulmates feel each other's pain and Jaskier is not having a good time.
