    Arthur Morgan did not intend to survive when he gave his hat to John Marston and stayed behind to gain his redemption. As he crawled towards his final resting place, he never intended to wake up again.

    But he does wake up. Thanks to time travelers Francis Sinclair and Charles Smith, Arthur's life has been saved by a Saint Denis hospital in the year 2021. The two men were under orders from a mysterious figure known only as The Traveler to save Arthur, as a reward for turning his life around. While Arthur's tuberculosis is on the mend, he finds he has unfortunately developed a nasty case of PTSD from his brush with death. To cope, he goes to live on a Big Valley cattle ranch owned by Jackson and Victoria Linton, two of Mary Linton's descendants. The siblings quickly become Arthur's new family, though Arthur is especially taken with Victoria. At the same time, Arthur is haunted by memories of his past life, from 1883 to 1899.

    Navigating the strangeness of waking up in a different century soon takes a spot on the back burner when a ghost from the past begins to threaten the ranch. Arthur must prove whether he really is a redeemed man as he faces a choice between his old life and the new home he has made in 2021.

The only person Arthur had ever brought back to camp had been Mary Gillis, and he had never invited her to stay. With that particular commonality in mind, Hosea studied this newcomer as he approached with Arthur.

    The two of them had to pass by Hosea on their way to Dutch’s cabin and Arthur paused, his companion falling into step beside him. Up close, Hosea could see that the man’s dark skin held an even deeper shade beneath his eyes, betraying sleepless nights. His black hair was pulled back in a loose tail that stopped well past his shoulders—and, well, if Hosea were a couple decades younger, he could certainly understand why this man was the first person Arthur had brought home since introducing them all to Mary Gillis.

    Or: Five times Hosea Matthews suspected something was going on between Arthur and Charles, and the one time he confirmed it.

His tired body seemed to relax slowly, slowly, till there was nothing left but the ghost of a smile and blue eyes turned to the sky.

    Arthur is kidnapped by the O'Driscolls, and as the days pass him by, he comes to realize Dutch isn't coming for him. Instead, he finds himself being saved by Charles Smith. In more ways than one.
