Leon’s jaw tightened. “I’ll manage.”
“Manage?” Chris took a step forward. “You’re wrapped up in bandages, and you’re talking about managing like this is some routine assignment- ”
“It is routine,” Leon cut in sharply.
The silence that followed was immediate. Chris stared at him like he didn’t recognize him. Leon felt it, like something cracking open in his chest.
So he doubled down.“That’s the job,” he added, colder now. “You don’t get to pick when it’s convenient.”
Chris flinched. It was small and barely noticeable, but Leon still saw it. And it made something inside him twist so violently he almost lost his footing.
*Good. Keep going. Make it worse. He’ll let go if you make it worse.*

“Come on, I’m not asking you to stay at the welcome party all night, but you should at least greet the rookie. Make a good first impression,” insists Jill.
Chris twirls his pen between his fingers and he sighs again. “You know I don’t care about that. I’ll meet him soon enough.”
Jill puts her hands on his desk and leans over it to get in his personal space. Her smile is mischievous and positively gleeful.
“Even when he’s exactly your type?” she whispers with amusement.
“I don’t have a type,” Chris argues, even though he knows that they both know he does.
As if on cue, Jill leans back and begins counting on her fingers as she speaks; “Really? Soft blonde hair, delicate features, big innocent baby blue doe eyes, a sweet smile…”
Chris can’t help imagining what the rookie must look like from Jill’s description, and damn if that doesn’t make for a pretty picture.

Harry laughed. “Ah, yes. The great debate. What is Tom Riddle more,” he mused, “pretty, or awful?”

“Awfully pretty,” Harry replied.

Tanaka’s question sends Nishinoya’s train of thought into a screeching halt. “Asahi? A snob?” he echoes, confused.
“Yeah, I mean,” Tanaka begins, “he doesn’t really talk much, does he? I talked to him the other day and I swear he seemed like he didn’t want to talk to me and all, with all those short answers he was giving me. And he’s always so serious, looking like he has a million things on his mind. Also, I heard he only hangs around Suga-san and Daichi-san. Like he doesn’t have any other friends at all besides them. Kinda sad, don’t you think?”
