Five hundred and seventy-three lanterns. A long and happy life. Then, when you're ready for it, you'll have General Ming Guang, Martial God of the North, as your worshipper. And Pei Ming as your servant.”
For a moment Mu Qing donned a look that Pei Ming recognized. Beneath his lashes was scrutiny and suspicion. It had diminished over the years, but it never vanished completely. And when Mu Qing found no deceit, his expression loosened.
“The North would burn your temples down when they find out their god is kneeling before the Martial God of the Southwest.” Mu Qing chuckled, placing Ruoye aside with great care before parting his thighs to beckon Pei Ming closer. His hands settled naturally upon Pei Ming's shoulders, neither hesitant nor stiff, as though they had found that place countless times before. “You're making a fool of yourself.”
“I’m planning on making a career out of it,” he exhaled, perfectly content.
In which Pei Ming falls first and falls even harder as Mu Qing allows himself to love and be loved.

Mu Qing caught Hua Cheng's eye and realised that the Ghost King shared his amusement about the situation. A small part of his soul settled at the normality of this moment — no battles, no hate, no death, just... three gods and a ghost who all peacefully settled themselves into a courtship that shocked the heavens.

Mu Qing felt the smile that had unconsciously made its way onto his lips slide right off again.
General, Yong Baige whimpered over the spiritual array. I can see her, I can see her right in front of me, but she's dead, General, she's dead. Please remind me that she's dead, please.

Or, after a mission with his two junior officials, Yong Baige and Nie Zhiyuan, Mu Qing feels like something isn't right. He can't stop remembering the desolate look in the eyes of the ghost they had defeated when it had sworn its revenge. Then everything around him starts to fall apart. Desperately, he attempts to fix everything before it's too late — if only this annoying headache would leave him alone!
