In this work, I'm going to outline different elements of AO3 and how you can customize them in different ways. Using these instructions, you can start understanding the basics of CSS code for the specific purpose of creating an AO3 site skin.
I'm self-taught with CSS and still learning how to build a comprehensive AO3 site skin, but I'm sharing what I know so that you can join the skin-creation community - or at least modify existing skins to suit your needs better.
No prior knowledge of CSS or html are required to use the instructions in this work.

"Hey, I never asked. What’s the big secret?” He circled Jason, one hand resting on his shoulder in a mocking facsimile of casual friendliness. Before, every touch would have made him flinch and spit vitriol at the monster, but now, he didn’t even react to the hand. “Who is the big, bad Bat? His name. Tell me."
“Of course, sir. Its-"
BANG!
Jason Todd died underground in an abandoned wing of Arkham Asylum.
But his ghost still stuck around.
