“I know. You used to handle your heats pretty well back then, so I’m not too worried.” He pauses, a finger tapping on the side of his cup as he thinks. “Although… it’s possible that after such a long time without one, you might experience it more intensely. I’ll make sure to accommodate for you when that happens.”

Was the love of your life. There was no life left for Kaveh anymore, and he'd spent his golden years thinking that was as unlucky as he would ever get. He had enough regrets to fill up the suitcase he'd brought from Snezhnaya — a life's worth of hypotheticals and logical fallacies. While grief gnawed at him as a teenager, as an old man, it now consumed him from the inside.
Or: the Withering that destroyed Kaveh’s magnum opus also pulled his life away, transforming him into a vampire. Seventy years later, he returns to Sumeru.

"I don't want to owe anymore debts!" Kaveh yells abruptly, clenching his fists. "Nothing in life is free, I know that. I've learned that the hard way. And the last person I want to be indebted to is you."
Kaveh can't pay rent, he hasn't for eight long month, there just isn't enough money. But the last thing he wants is another thing for Alhaitham to dangle over his head.
He initiated it, but still, he never expected to find a new rent contract slipped under his bedroom door with the payment changed from mora to sexual intercourse.
AKA; Alhaitham and Kaveh use rent as an excuse to explore each other's bodies until their greed leads to more than just mere mutual lust.

“There’s no rule saying you can’t like the same flower as your mother,” Alhaitham says. “The flower has not rejected you. Not the way your mother has.”
