“Agreed. I’ll make sure you get the quality ones—though I’m still not sure why they still included this when the school provides equipment at the Observation Tower. Scales for potion ingredients, a basic crystal phial set, and—oh, your father insists on dragon-hide gloves.”
“Potions accidents are no joke.” Barty shook his head. “I’ve seen third-years lose eyebrows.”
“I’ll be careful, Dad.”
“Famous last words, really.”

There were never any Horcruxes. When Voldemort attacked the Potters, Harry was saved by a very old protection ritual in a life for a life. So Voldemort was defeated. Permanently. However, when he was dropped off at the Dursley's, someone should have reminded Dumbledore that small children shouldn't be left unsupervised. If he wanted Harry to live with his Muggle relatives, he should have stuck around to make sure he stayed there. Wandering away from his relatives in the middle of a cold night without them ever knowing he'd been there, the saviour of the wizarding world is picked up by a magical stranger who decides to adopt him.
A cliche thought of a plot, but with a unique twist!
