Summary
I lived with this hunger long before the Hail Mary. This is nothing new. I’m fine.
Right up until Rocky asks another question.
“When last time you touch other human person skin, question?”
Oh. Oh no. “When I… a few days after I first woke up here.”
Rocky starts to relax for a split second, but then tightens when something occurs to him.
“Grace crewmates dead when you wake up. You said this, statement. You not even know your own name, remember nothing, see dead bodies, confirm?”
I nod, because if I open my mouth I will gag.
“When last time Grace touch ALIVE human person, question.”
I swallow thickly. I don’t answer aloud because I know Rocky can hear the hitch in my breath. My stomach churns with fresh bile. He senses my vital signs tick over into stress patterns and goes very, very still again.
“Grace. When last time, question.”
I clench my jaw so hard my temples ache, and beg him with my eyes to just stop.
“Grace. Please say not when… when Evil Stratt humans put you to sleep.”
I can taste grass.

Summary
Grace clings to the zenonite ball as tightly as he can, trying to trick his mind into believing that the smooth, warm surface was what it was after. That this hug shared between two species unable to coexist in the same environment is enough to satisfy his human instincts.
His skin prickles. The tears keep falling. It isn’t enough. And it will stay that way for as long as he is away from Earth.
A shudder runs through the man at this bleak thought, the ever-expanding pit in his chest feeling as though it’s swallowing up his entire being.
As if he heard the emotional casam split further, Rocky’s warbles take on a mournful croon. “Grace, tell Rocky what wrong. Please?”
Grace presses his tear-stained cheek against the warm surface, sighing miserably.
“I’m touch starved.”
Or... Grace's years of isolation from humans result in severe touch starvation. Rocky takes one look at this problem and says, "Hold my minerals."

Summary
After a minorly life-threatening incident aboard the Hail Mary, Grace can't sleep. Rocky takes the opportunity to indulge their...less than scientific curiosity about their leaky human friend's body. Non-sexual intimacy abounds.
How fragile this creature is, Rocky realizes. Its endoskeleton is so flimsy, and so far beneath the soft skin it should really be protecting. How easily injured. How malleable. How easily Rocky would be able to crush the tiny blood vessels (“capillaries”) near the surface, leaving marks that remain tender and sore and turn many colors (“bruises”). Humans etch things into their outer skin, sometimes, for decoration or religious reasons. They use tiny needles to embed colored pigments just below the surface, where it remains visible to other humans forever (“tattoos”). Rocky wonders if Grace has any tattoos. Rocky thinks about being embedded underneath Grace’s skin.

Summary
It’s gonna be a long trip.
When I finally found Rocky, stranded in the middle of nowhere, I thought I was going to die. I thought I was going to slowly starve to death. But when I banged on the Blip-A’s hull and suddenly heard Rocky's voice through the radio, it was the best moment of my life.
But, you know…. I am still, actually, going to starve to death. I hate it when reality sets in.
On the long trip to Erid, Rocky and Grace discover music together. But for Grace, the road gets harder and harder.

“Here? Here? Here?” He's not testing anymore. The little rascal has my body figured out and he goes for all my ticklish spots with the limbs not pinning my arms to the floor. Even through this new discovery, he's being careful not to hurt me. It's almost sweet.
“Get-” I choke out through bubbling laughter, “get off!”
I try to push up, but he puts another limb on my back, pushing me down harder. I can't get up.
The laughter dies.

Summary
Rocky was used to the rhythm of the alien heart, two-part harmony that only changed up when his human was upset or sleeping. Its steady song followed him to sleep and greeted him with the first notions of consciousness. A small thing really, between all the foreign sounds his human makes at the regular, with all of his squishy meat and never-closing soundhole.
But he has grown to expect it nonetheless, a solid (if ever moving) point in the little space Grace called home. Even when his stupid human had the weird panic episodes, or got scared, it went faster, stronger, yes, but it was still Grace-sound, alive-sound, even if it did freak him out the first couple times.

He wonders if Kazuma feels the same way he does now. He's never asked. But he's come to associate this feeling—the fluttering, pounding heart; the burning cheeks; the ache of his limbs—with Kazuma. He only ever really drinks with Kazuma, after all. So it seems weird to think Kazuma wouldn't feel that way, but maybe he doesn't. It's a nice feeling, though. So he hopes Kazuma feels the same way.
Maybe he can find out. The bed is small, after all. If he just shifts a little—shifts a little back—some natural, easy thing—their legs will be pressed together again. And Ryunosuke could feel if Kazuma is burning hot, too. He wants Kazuma to be, too, suddenly, desperately. Wants Kazuma to feel the same way.
It's always like this when he drinks. And sometimes when he isn't, too. Sometimes. Like when Kazuma calls him good, or when Kazuma laughs just so, or… or… there's other times, too. Just hard to remember right now. But it's mostly when he's drinking. When they're drinking. Ryunosuke can never tell if it's the alcohol or him.

"You're such an ass," Ryunosuke huffs, arms dropping, half his weight against Kazuma's side. Yes, just like that. "Did you want more sake or what?"
Kazuma swallows. Tastes it on his tongue, in his mouth, through his throat. It's sinfully sweet when it slips out: "How drunk are you, anyway?"
Because Ryunosuke is right there, you know. Right there, all warm and flushed against him, little breaths puffing out through his mouth. Had he taken another sip of his drink while Kazuma wasn't looking? His mouth looks wet. As though he had, as though he hadn't wiped his mouth, as though it hasn't dried quite yet. Kazuma could find out for himself.
Ryunosuke blinks. "Uh," he says. Furrows his eyebrows. "Fairly?" A beat. "Why do you ask?"
"No reason."
