Through the haze of fire and metallic roars and crashing shuttles and maniacal laughter and mocking words and electrocution and illusions of corpses and chains and so much blame, there was a ragged, terrified, desperate scream. Far, far away.
He wanted to find its source. He wanted to help them. They sounded like they had nothing in their soul but pure pain. He couldn't place where they were—everywhere, nowhere. Lost. Buried.
Ex-Director Amy Rose, with the help of Empress Blaze the Cat and, at a later time, Sonic the Hedgehog, compiled the symptoms he presented post-pandemic. This account, in Rose's perspective, must be prioritized over the rest as the experience of the first line of defense in the Restoration, and as Subject-001 of all infected parties.

Summary
Sonic defeated The End. They watched him pierce through the husk of Supreme and the threat in the sky, all in a second, colored cyan and shooting into the night like a star. First came joy. They waited for him to return to them, Emeralds in hand. Then came worry.
He never came down.
Across dimensions, the Ancients were victorious. The Pilots vanquished The End, and got to return to their home, alive, after fighting the greatest battle their people had ever witnessed. That, however, is all cut short when a boy comes falling from the sky, wrenching the Emeralds from their systems and sending the Islands into chaos. The Emeralds answer to him like they have never answered their machines. He speaks of having defeated The End.
A child from another dimension.
Sonic is stuck here. They promised him a way to return home if he can simply wait for them to build it. And in the meantime, they show him what life was like for the civilization that has long since passed. It seems like nothing more than a peaceful hiccup before he can get back to his friends.
But something is lurking in the shadows. Something sinister. Maybe this won't be a simple pit stop.

Fate was cruel, and it simply broke his heart to see someone so wonderful as his granddaughter pay the price for it

For as long as Tails can remember, Sonic's always made up a different story about how they first met. He's said he found Tails following him through the jungle, that he fell on him from out of a tree, that he caught him fixing his plane... It has become a constant just how inconsistent he can be with all these different versions of the same story. But Sonic's just having a bit of fun and exercising his right as his big brother to mess with him a little. Over the years it became their own silly tradition in a way.
Until Tails realizes the real reason why Sonic doesn't tell it right.
Time isn't a straight line, and the stitches holding their story together are a little uneven, but like Sonic says, the how isn't always what matters. That it happened at all is what does.
