LOSING LIMBS HURTS, KIDDO. WANNA FIND OUT HOW MUCH?
"Not really," they answer casually. "I don't mean physical hurt. It's emotional hurt. Inside, you thought they wouldn't do that to you."
The Indifference freezes from where its fingers had been messing with the polygon model of the gun trigger as it's actively printing. One fingertip twitches against the trigger, and the gun is only partially materialized but the Operator doesn't doubt that somehow the Indifference could pick it up and shoot if it wanted to.

or: the Indifference's weakness is love. the Operator realizes the Indifference has never been shown love itself, and decides to take a chance at defeating it.

Summary
The crisis in Fontaine is resolved, but a detail still nags at the Fourth of the Fatui Harbingers. Somehow, some way, she was duped. In a moment of weakness, she had let the mask slip, and let herself unduly assail the very woman who had given her life for the salvation of her people.
Arlecchino must right this wrong before she will allow herself to move on, but as with most —if not all— diplomatic matters, perhaps a simple letter will do?

Furina de Fontaine's voice trails off into a shocked whisper as she finally catches Arlecchino's eyes. Her mouth drops open in wordless shock, an expression that Arlecchino mirrors internally.

Summary
The first time it happened, she dismissed it, assuming she had simply gone mad. The second, third, and fourth times, she did the same. But eventually she started paying attention to the words, and learned things a maddened mind shouldn’t have been able to conjure on its own—information she should have had no way of knowing, delivered straight from cold, stilled lips. By the first time the voices materialized into a tangible shadow for someone else to witness, she had already accepted her own sanity.
It hadn't taken long after that to learn how to tune them out. Dead people hardly make for good conversationalists, after all, and these particular voices had little worth listening to in life either.
Even so, there will be bad days. There will be days when more than just a handful of voices resurface, when their weak, fading moans turn into an overwhelming tide of pain. There will be days the dull ache in her charred arms sharpens, the heat beneath her skin stirring into something hotter, more unbearable. Even those days she has learned to cope with.
Today is not one of those days.
Today is worse.

Arlecchino has a bad day. Furina makes it better.

Furina's voice, calm and matter as fact as ever, interrupted her thoughts.

The only thing that could be heard in the office was the steady ticking of the clock that Freminet gifted her a few years ago. Perhaps Arlecchino should have clarified, but she sees no reason why she must justify herself.
