Summary
What if Muzan had a different idea for handling the descendants of his nemesis?
Seeing them as small children, he sees more use in them. So he turns them into *half* demons. They will still age, (mostly because he doesn't want to have to deal with toddlers for eternity) even if it is at a slower rate.
However, even though he decides to turn Tanjiro and Nezuko into little half demons, he doesn't want to actually raise these two. He's a busy man, he doesn't want to deal with kids. So who of the upper moons would be best? Probably the guy who basically raised his sister anyway- Gyutaro!
So that's the basic premise of the AU. Still brainstorming it with a friend, but I thought it was a fun idea.

Tanjirou and Nezuko both liked the color red. It could have a nice deep and rich shade to it, or be soft and gentle. They weren't bothered everytime their home's floor stained with deep red splatters and smelled like iron.
It was normal to them, something that happened regularly. It was comforting even.

"I don't know how to believe you..." He said carefully, as if choosing his words, "You've just killed a demon with your bear hands, you didn't even use a sword and didn't slice it's head."

Muzan stared at the vicious twists of flesh that made up the disturbing form of whatever Tanjirou decided to depict on the paper. The thing looked like it came from the deepest pits of hell, its face contorted in a derisive sneer. The misshapen limbs reminded him of what happened in the Dungeon, and the entire piece was framed by unsettling looking mounds (?) of tangled (?) limbs (?). Though, looking closely at the particular shapes, he thought he saw-
-”Tanjirou”
-”Mmh?”
-”Is this Douma?”
The human beamed at him with the brightness of a thousand suns (ouch). He felt a little smug that he guessed right. Tanjirou could give the author of the Mainichi puzzles and guessing games a run for his money.
-”You know, I really think you’ve captured his true nature. This is exactly how I see the real thing. It’s as if you distilled everything that makes him him.”
Or the AU where, after meeting a suspiciously familiar looking child, Muzan decides that exposure therapy is a good thing and maybe kidnaps said child (oops)

But, yes, you are right. This is a momentous occasion. You say this young demon boy is open to working with you? After having his entire family decimated by the man himself, even. I must say, this news falls upon welcome ears.
However, the news of Muzan's attempted conscription is extremely alarming. A demon that doesn't require human flesh, as well as one who harbors resentment to his progenitor has never been seen before. It is a shock that one such as him exists at all.
Nonetheless, it would be best if you brought him to our headquarters. Understandably, many of our slayers would panic with a demon in their midst, hostile or not, so I bid you to take him under your wing, as a Tsuguko. Suspicion amongst the ranks will naturally abate.
I ask you to hasten. Every hour that Muzan wanders the earth is another death.

Summary
Instead of finding his family dead in the morning, Tanjiro finds them while it's still dark. Muzan is still at the scene and Tanjiro tries to save Nezuko. He manages to save Nezuko but the two are turned into demons.
Tanjiro tries to hide his true nature while going on his demon-slaying missions.
(Basically follows the base plot of the story except that Tanjiro is a demon. There will be a few cannon divergences but most parts are just simplified moments from the manga.)
