There's a bark of laughter from behind them.
"Y'know, if Darrel's kid brother were here, he might vouch for you," Dallas says slowly. "But unlucky for you, he's in the wind."
She takes a step to her left, and Dallas does the same, a sly smirk spreading across his face.
Cherry's heart jumps into her throat.
"I told you to move."

Summary
The west side notices something about the greasers. They’re becoming more aggressive with Socs. Like their anger is personal now. They are being more careful in their own territory. Like they’re preparing for the arrival of Jesus or something. The Curtises - everyone knows the Curtises, be it you know the eldest or the middle or the youngest - and their gang have been acting strangely. Dallas Winston gets into less trouble. Johnny Cade spends more time in their house. Steve Randle takes up more shifts at the DX. Two-Bit Matthews drinks less. Ponyboy and Sodapop, known for showing basic human decency to everyone, start becoming wary of Socs. And Darla… no one can really tell. One particular Soc is targeted by greasers over everyone else. Paul Holden. He doesn’t know why. No one knows why. The Socs have no idea what to make of it, but it’s clear that something is happening in the east side. After almost four months, the rumor starts.
Darla Curtis is pregnant.
