“Ryland,” he begged as Ryland took a step away from him. Colt sat up, drawing his knees close to his chest and resting his head on top of them. “I got off the plane,” he recounted. “Jody, Dan, and I went to get coffee and- and I looked up at the TV and they-” he looked up, barely able to make out Ryland’s silhouette in the mess of tears welling up in his eyes- “they said you died, Ryland.”
He nodded. “I did.”
“Why’d you have to die?”
“I don’t know.”

“Uncle Grace!” a chorus of little voices rang out across the beach.
Chuckling, Grace closed his laptop after finishing class for the day as the last of his students filtered out of the classroom of their side of the xenonite divider. He stuffed his hands in his cardigan pockets and turned around to see the triplets scurrying across the sand in their xenonite suits towards Grace. Just a little further behind them, their elder sibling was moving at a more leisurely pace.
“Well, if it isn’t my little wonders,” Grace joked, sauntering over.
