Summary
"Did you know?" She looks up at him with desperate eyes. "When he gave me to you. When you RAISED me like a real brother would. Did you know I wasn't really his creation?"
Black Sapphire's silence is answer enough.
"You KNEW. You knew and you never TOLD me-"
"He told me not to-"
"Of COURSE he did! Because the LIE was more USEFUL than the TRUTH!"Black Sapphire kneels beside her. "Candy Apple, listen to me. It doesn't matter how you were made. What matters is-"
"It matters to ME!" Tears stream down. "My whole LIFE has been about being his special creation! His best work! And now I don't even have THAT! I'm just-I'm just some COOKIE he found in the TRASH!"
"You're not-"
"How would YOU know?! How would ANYONE know?! Maybe I'm just LYING to myself about being upset! Maybe this whole conversation is FAKE! Maybe I'm not even REAL!""Don't do anything reckless," he says carefully. "Whatever you're planning-"
"I'm not planning anything."
Black Sapphire doesn't believe her. But what can he do?
After PV's awakening, Candy Apple Cookie runs away from home. Shadow Milk has issues, and Black Sapphire is caught in the fray.

Summary
“You’re…” His said in disbelief, eroding his fury. “You’re the missing people. The ones from the news. The admins–everyone–”
Builderman’s grip loosened just enough for the man to slump to his knees, panting hard, hair hanging over his eyes. Guest 1337 kept one hand braced on his shoulder in case he lunged again, but the threat was gone for now. The rage had drained straight through the cracks of shock widening across the man’s face.
The suited person he’d been strangling—perfect tie, perfect posture, already smoothing dust from their jacket—stared back with cold distaste, as if nearly being murdered was an inconvenience rather than an emergency.
“Missing people,” Shedletsky repeated under his breath. “Well. That narrows things down to… us.”
The man looked around wildly at the survivors clustered in the main room.
These were faces from missing posters.
From obituaries.
From forums flooded with grief and confusion and freak theories.
“You’re real,” the man whispered. “You’re all real. You’re alive.”

Summary
The wreckage stretched farther than she had first realised. An expanse of detritus and wreckage, and a sea of stone and rubble. That was the sight that met her eyes.
And somewhere beneath all of it was him.
Nutmeg Tiger Cookie turned slowly, her breathing shallow. There was too much. Far too much. Even if she dug without stopping, even if her claws split down to the quick and her muscles gave way, she could spend days clawing through the ruins and still miss him by inches. A single stone could hide him forever. A single buried chamber could become his tomb.
How am I going to search all this before nightfall?
Her gaze darted desperately across the wreckage, trying to calculate where to begin, where to search next, but every pile of debris looked equally impossible. Every mound could be the one covering him. Every moment of silence could mean she had already arrived too late.
For the first time since the collapse, fear truly settled into her bones.
Not fear of death.
Fear that she would never find him at all.
It was under this enormity that Nutmeg Tiger Cookie, for the first time, began to believe that Burning Spice Cookie was dead.

Summary
Diva was there. She looked up when Vanity came into the firelight. She looked down at what Vanity was carrying.
“I talked to Teto, to try to gain some insight into the mood you’ve been in recently.”
Vanity set her burden down across from the fire. Sat beside it. Looked at Diva across the flames with the same flat patience she brought to everything. Diva only turned slightly, narrowing her eyes at her.
“I think if you asked her real nicely, she’d stop having a good time in front of you if it meant she died less, but we all know you aren’t going to do that," Vanity said, casually.
Diva was looking at her, mouth pressed into a thin line. The shadows that cast over her face made it hard to see what she was thinking..
"I thought you'd want to know," Vanity continued. "Since you can't ask her yourself anymore tonight. He said mine was the last round tonight." She reached out and pat her hand on the bundle with a proprietariness that made the firelight feel colder. "I'm going to eat well."
The fire crackled.
"You're welcome to sit with me today," Vanity said, "if you want company. I’m in a good mood now that I don’t have to listen to your whining.”

Summary
On the road ahead surely will be friends dear and true: throughout the land is there anyone who knows not you?
Frieren stood at the entrance to the town square. Behind her, the afternoon light was doing something pleasant with the fountain, and a few children had gathered at a cautious distance to stare at her ears.
"And so," the elder concluded, with the gravity of a man delivering a eulogy, "we ask that you accept this meal, and this lodging, and the eternal thanks of our village. We will tell our children of the great mage Frieren, who came from the north and saved us without asking for a single coin."
"I did ask for a grimoire," Frieren said. "Your mayor gave it to me. It keeps both sides of my pillow cold now."
A brief silence.
"We will tell our children," the elder continued, with admirable composure, "of the great mage Frieren."
She had not sought any of this out. She had simply been walking, as she always was, and the world had kept turning around her, and people had kept remembering. She did not know what to do with that, precisely. She had never been good at knowing what to do with being known.
Himmel had been extraordinary at it.
