That night, as gloved hand met gloved hand, as Byleth slid their Father’s ring onto Their Light’s finger, they swore that they would never let her doubt that fact.
“I will always choose you, El,” they whispered as their fingers intertwined.
And the name felt easy on their tongue. Like it had simply been lodged there, at the back of their throat, and deep in their bones, for a lifetime. Like finally saying it aloud was the most natural thing in the world. A simple syllable filling the space between them with the simplicity and warmth of a vow that had never been uttered before and yet felt as old as time. Like it would echo on forever.

Five times Edelgard asks Byleth if they would choose her again - and one time Byleth says the quiet part out loud.

The heroine stops in her rambling. Her mouth hangs slightly open as she blinks at her, fixing her with a questioning look. “Uuuh, well, now you’re here, it opens a lot more possibilities. If you’re here, we might just be able to take him down.” The grip on her hand softens. “... Isn’t that what you want ?” She stutters, and aquamarine eyes steal her breath.
What she wants is not important. All she wants is for someone to stir her in the right direction. All she needs is a clear order, and then, she will know what to do. Then, she won’t feel so adrift.
That, and she would do anything for these eyes.
“How can I help ?” She stutters back.

Begrudgingly, Damian tolerates his future brother's presence as he looks for a way home - all while doing everything to avoid meeting the rest of his family. He can't afford to change the past, after all.

He heard the yells from outside. Saw the civilian's face turning to ash as they realized they had just given out their positions. The quiet unlatching of something in the distance. The canister dropped in the room and rolled on the ground.
Only when it released Scarecrow's fear gas all over the small, badly ventilated room did he manage to move again.
