Summary
Patroclus is not the Chosen One; he is not even sure he belongs in this world half the time. He knows the Chosen One and he's a boy just like himself—except he’s golden and perfect, he’s the star Quidditch player and he's the most powerful and gifted wizard in history. He’s destined to save all of magic someday. Patroclus kind of wants to hate him but Achilles makes it impossible.
The Harry Potter and Song of Achilles mashup you never knew you wanted (hopefully).

Do I know of any hero that was happy? He thinks.
(And frowns, because he is certain he has heard similar words spoken somewhere. They seem important, so why is it that he could not remember where they came from?)

Bookmarker's Notes
This is how you write a great OC. He didn't step in to fix every ill. He even contributed to problems, but he had a personality and purpose that stayed true throughout the story, even if it was only revealed 200k words in. I had such mixed feelings about him before all came to light, but his death still made me tear up.

Summary
Captured by the Galra, Keith is given two choices- either lose himself to Haggar's experimentation, or take what might be his only chance at freedom- joining the Galra prince, Lotor. While he might not trust the prince, he'd rather take his chances with him than the witch- even if that means publicly betraying Voltron. It's not like he can go back anyways, after what Haggar did to him.
At least this way, he can keep a close eye on the Galra Prince- or at least, that's the plan. Actually carrying it out proves to be far more difficult than he could have expected, leading him to realize that the real threat might never have been Zarkon.
