Samira nodded. “Yeah, she said it was ‘the best place to spend the holidays and who knows maybe I’d be pleasantly surprised.’ ”
“She said the exact same thing to me.”

Samira keeps breathing in and out, trying to calm and cool herself down. It’s so hot in here — was it always so hot in here? — and she can feel sweat on her forehead, so she splashes more water on her face. She’s flushed and her heart is pounding, blood roaring in her ears. She has to go back soon; Parker has her own patients to take care of, and this patient with the mysterious illness is Samira’s to diagnose, to save. She looks in the mirror only to freeze. Her pupils are dilated and combined with all her other symptoms…
Fuck.
She stumbles out of the bathroom as quickly as she can, intent on getting herself back to the patient’s room. Everyone needs to know how contagious this illness is and how quickly it affects you. Everyone.
But she only makes it a few steps out the door before collapsing, just like her patient.
Strong arms catch her just as she loses consciousness.

“Well, when you put it like that…. maybe it’s a bad idea?” He knew she could never resist a challenge, especially not one with stakes like this. She took Halloween and Mohan very seriously. They both did.

Max sighed, looking up. “Fine, it was weird. But it’s none of our business, okay? So what if there was some kind of tension going on there and they acted like we shouldn’t be in here. They’re our professors for at least the rest of this semester. It’s none of our business.” He nodded to himself. As far as he was concerned, that was that.
“Mmhmmm.”
“Dane.” Dane bit their lip and stayed silent. “Dane, come on. It’s none of our business. Dane?”
“Hmm, it may be none of your business but I want to know. And I’m going to.”
“Dane, come on. It’s the first day.”
Dane stayed silent for a few moments before speaking, their voice mischievous, “I know, and it might take me all semester but I’m going to know.” Here they paused before poking Max, who already knew where this was going. “And you’re going to help me.”
__In which Dane and Max are lucky enough to get two classes in a row in the same room, which are taught by Professors Maclean and Howard respectively. There's definitely something going on between the two professors, and Dane is determined to find out what.
